I as an individual could handle it, I assure you... Many times I have mulled over the idea of waking up one morning, turning on the TV and seeing motherships hovering over every capital city on Earth.

I think that's true, I think there is this vicious cycle of group-think combining the public en masse and the media, the same way we see war hysteria sweep through populations.

If disclosure happened you'd see plenty of people freak out as you describe but you'd see many other reactions.

Some people would be fearful sure but others would be aggressive, you'd see anti-alien groups forming "ET go home!" and shit.

Still others would go to the other extreme and you'd see everything from people begging to be taken away to entire religious cults forming around them.

Personally I would be delighted to know we are not alone but I'd be cautious about their intent... moderate as usual.

If disclosure happens, it would embolden many people to leave behind religions and existing cultural beliefs, especially if the ETs told the world, "You don't have to do that to be enlightened and live in a crime-free environment" or, "That's not what happens after you die; we are all one, and nobody goes to Hell just because he is not a member of some belief system.".......

They would totally crush the existing paradigm on Earth and help liberate minds on Earth....Perhaps many places of worship like churches and temples would be abandoned by a significant amount of people once disclosure happens, even more so if the ETs don't have any religion that they follow....
