If so, you will awaken your third eye! Yes, the pineal becomes active when it is dark, and it begins to secrete tryptamines such as melatonin and DMT, but sunlight light suppresses these tryptamines. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34576271 If you sit in a pitch black room (with windows completely covered), then you will begin to hear voices, see beings from other dimensions, and your consciousness will also 'bi-locate' into another dimension, especially if you stay there for hours. Most people haven't got the balls to try this because we are naturally afraid of the dark. This is because if we stay immersed into the darkness for long enough, then we will see the bogey man - literally. I did this for an hour and let me tell you what I saw... first off, I began to hear like hissing noises -- like a rattle snake's tail. I knew then that my third eye was starting to release tryptamines. Although I was scared, I knew I had to stick with it, and boy oh fucking boy, what I saw a little while after was absolutely terrifying beyond fucking words... I started to see some figure appear in front of me... it was ghost white in appearance (...had it's own luminescence in fact). As I looked closer at it, I saw that it was some sort of bipedal humanoid / bird hybrid creature. It was featherless with leathery white skin, and it was around 8ft in appearance. The hissing rattle snake sounds I could first hear, were caused by some ceremonial sceptre which the creature was clutching in it's deformed talon like hands. When it shook the sceptre, it made this horrible hissing noise. I noticed that the sceptre had a tiny skull attached to the tip of it -- like it was the skull of a child. Beneath the skull, it had feathers attached to it. Then I also noticed something even more strange; I noticed some sort of torches on walls... I was in some sort of pyramid -- I believe to be Mexican. In that moment, I had what I can only describe to be 'total recall' - that is I remembered this being and this place. I had been here before, but I absorbed in that moment, that the incident was so traumatic, that my mind created some sort of barrier to prevent me from recalling the encounter with this creature. Anyway, the creature started to move in really close -- even putting it's face in close to mine. At this point I absolutely shit myself and started to look desperately for an escape from the creature and it's lair. All of a sudden I tore down (by luck) the window covering, and in that moment the creature was gone and I was back to 'reality'. It was a fucking terrifying experience! But, as I say, I remembered this creature... I believe it to be one of the bird gods of ancient Mexico. The strange thing is, it seemed to be some sort of deformed genetic experiment -- like the DNA of a human was crossed with that of a bird, but it did not resemble the bird headed gods of Egypt -- more like DNA had been fused together and produced this incredibly grotesque chimera. If I get the courage, I may try this again sometime... perhaps I might end up in it's lair again, and maybe I'll be able to discover more things. OOH I want to try that! Were your eyes open? |

IDK if it will work if there is even minute amounts of light entering the room or environment. I also just sat in the corner... no special meditative posture. This was initially speculation on my part, when I discovered that zero sunlight conditions cause the release of trypatmines... that was of course until I tried this out. Also I since discovered that people who immerse themselves into sensory deprivation tanks also report the hissing sound, but they did not report seeing the creature I saw. Perhaps they didn't stay immersed in the darkness for long enough. I absorbed from this experience, that this creature is the bogey man of legend, and the reason why children are especially afraid of the dark because they have strong subconscious recall of being immersed into the darkness with this being... possibly before incarnating here. It is a terrifying experience. |

Yes, it's important to keep your eyes open and sit up right, otherwise melatonin will cause you to become drowsy and you'll fall asleep. Thanks! BTW the dark is scared of me. Since 1954, sensory deprivation chambers have let people have strange hallucinations and out-of-body experiences! A sensory deprivation tank is a temperature regulated, salt-water filled, soundproof, lightproof tank that can isolate its occupant from numerous forms of sensory input all at once, causing people to experience hallucinations, out of body experiences, and witness-what they claimed were-parallel universes. It sounds like the stuff of the future or of fantasy, but it has been around for a while. John C. Lilly was the neuroscientist who spearheaded the creation of this tank with a simple question; “What would happen if the mind was deprived of as much external stimulus as possible.” In the original deprivation tank, people were submerged into 160 gallons of water wearing a black-out mask (a latex mask engineered to allow one to breath, but block out any light from one’s eyes). The water and air temperature were kept as the same temperature of one’s skin; roughly 34 degrees Celsius. The masks were eventually done away with as people found having their heads wrapped with latex to be distracting. Also, people didn’t need to be completely submerged anymore. Water was saturated with 800 pounds of Epsom salt, which made the water so dense that one’s entire body could float at or near its surface. Inside the tank, there was not even a speck of light. The silence was so intense that people could hear their muscles tense, their heart beat, and their eyelids close. The buoyancy of the water gave the environment an almost zero-gravity quality. Lilly was one of the first people to try out the tank. He claimed that it allowed him to make contact with creatures from other dimensions and civilizations far more advanced than our own. Lilly’s experience however, is apparently not shared by others who have been in the tank. Mild hallucinations, heightened levels of introspection, and the sensation that the mind has left the body are the more common experiences among users. So what do you think; do our senses help us to perceive reality or do they limit us from exploring its full potential. [link to www.omg-facts.com] |

Am I doing it wrong? Melatonin causes us to fall asleep and we enter a dream, but if you can remain conscious while in a pitch black room, you will start seeing things. Maybe not what I saw, or John C Lilly, but you will likely see or hear things. The trick is to try to overcome fear of darkness and relax. |

IDK, but I read that melatonin is a tryptamine, so maybe these 'hallucinogenic' experiences are caused by this. It would make sense seeing as melatonin is secreted when there is lack of sunlight. |

A cave I've been in numerous times...there's a small room with a 8ft ceiling furthest from the passage... Very narrow entry to gain access...have to belly crawl through a 10-12ft passage to get in. Very quiet...and of course pitch black dark. When I activated the illumination from my watch it seemed as bright as the Sun... |
