My bedroom is pitch black for about 8 hours a night. Not even a mobile phone led light.
Of course, I am lying down. Am I doing it wrong?

Maybe not what I saw, or John C Lilly, but you will likely see or hear things. The trick is to try to overcome fear of darkness and relax.
