Just for perspective and to play the Devil's advocate, there are some striking similarities between Saddam Gassing the Kurds.
Both were politically aligned to the Baath Party. Saddam attacked the Kurds as the war with Iran was closing, much like Assad is being accused of. The Kurds were the Northern Front to Saddam in that war. The rebels are near defeat also!
Both govts denied using the gas. International response at the time of Saddam was muted. A briefing paper by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office stated: "We believe it better to maintain a dialogue with others if we want to influence their actions. Punitive measures such as unilateral sanctions would not be effective in changing Iraq's behaviour over chemical weapons, and would damage British interests to no avail."

The problem is the differences between the victims of both attacks is monumental. Just look at the differences at this site of the Kurds:

Congress comes back into session on Monday September 9, and will be taking up President Obama's bill for the authorization to use military force against Syria. On that day at 4pm we will gather at the Federal Building in downtown Portland, the symbol of the federal government in our city. We will surround the building, forming a human chain, and raise our voice in chant and song to let the our Congress know that we do not support war!

This is not the time to lay around bitching about how fucked up the system is.
