Reports are emerging of a potential major incident at Whipps Cross Hospital.

Details are currently unclear, but there is a large police presence and people are being stopped from entering or leaving the hospital

One woman who contacted the Guardian said the area is "swarming with police."

However, the police have been unable to provide details at this stage.

Barts Health, the trust which runs the hospital, said it was not aware of the incident.

A security alert has closed Whipps Cross University Hospital and surrounding roads.

James Lane, which has an entrance to the hospital, has since 1030am been closed in both directions due to an unspecified 'security alert'.
