The clothes is supposed to refer to the epoch of Russian tsar Peter the Great. That period was yet before the French Revolution.

The Russian elite mimicked the French - even spoke French at court. So, the French dress is in keeping with the era of the palace's construction and use.

It was unclear whether this was a reference to the exclusive London borough or the football club.

I was not surprised by the pomp and circumstance (blech) but the above comment is so arrogant - especially at such a gathering. And terribly undiplomatic.

Surely/hopefully he's referring to the football club - that a Russian billionaire has owned for quite a while now.

But knowing the press have to allow for consideration that perhaps Putin never made that remark at all.

They were told in school that the first "black" President would be great.I also, the first time I heard him on national radio - a recording from 2006 played in 2007 - was thunderstruck - "That IS the next President".
