Which is worse? Following your own path, being different and suffering for it. Or going along as you are told to ease the pain and suffering?

To live life to the fullest seems to demand pain, suffering and courage. We see this message in all great stories and myths. What kind of suffering? Suffering that comes from following your own path, being your own person in spite of the risks. Obviously, living this way is very threatening to those around to us and causes them to label you out of fear. Being different is rarely understood or accepted by others.

But, I have come to understand that I have no other choice. I either follow the path that my heart leads me or life is not worth living. I find that ignorance, servitude and boredom are much more difficult to deal with than physical suffering and pain.

There does not seem to be any middle ground. Either we accept who and what we are or we don't and do as we are told. We cannot straddle the fence forever. Sooner or later we have to choose. Whether we want to or not.

We have been told in many texts and myths that suffering is the path to purification and enlightenment. I don't know if this is true, but my path is already decided for me. Now I need to just have courage and go where life leads me. I refuse to turn back now. My choice has been made...

How many here have given up on what they believe in and live a life that they hate just for money, comfort and security?

Is that wrong? What do you think?

Ok, I have found you to be an intelligent person. So, attacks here my friend.

Only a very few can grasp the concept that the path to enlightenment or truth is a very difficult path to follow.

It is MUCH easier to stay a slave and to give in to comfort, pleasure and money than to let them all go in favor of true freedom...

Would you agree?

OP I know exactly what you're saying and no matter how hard it is, I stick to my path and my heart. I receive so much hate and other people's shit thrown at me but I keep going.

I have learned that other people's perceptions mean nothing. They don't know what I know. They don't see what I see. They don't live my life. Everyone wants me to live their life and not my own. I see how unhappy these people are when I have found happiness and truth withing myself. I'm not amusing others like they want me to. They can't stand that.

I could go on forever on this. My whole life has been like that but like I said, I will stand strong on my path, not theirs.

Having money in some ways is a hindrance to enlightenment

Because when you have money you focus on enjoying that money

When you have no money you are forced to focus internally

I have given up everything for my beliefs. And I no regrets at all.

I gave up a high paying job in corporate America, nice big house, retirement, family. BUT, please don't see me as unhappy, regretful or angry. This is the happiest that I have ever been.

You should because it's true

Some group has been testing me to see how I react to electromagnetic stimulation

I feel the disturbance in my force

And it is coming from an external source
 Quoting: Open Your Eyes

It sounds crazy to say it, but I have been worked over REALLY hard also lately. It seems like I have become a target. Ha,ha.

Could it be that those closest to reaching beyond this physical reality are tested even harder than most of humanity?

Few would understand what we have decided to do. A very small few. This path can be lonely, painful and long.

BUT, there is no other way HOME. This is the path that must be travelled. That is why so few take it.

All of the spiritual books, myths and old stories tell us this. We will never find peace until we give it all up and walk naked as a baby without fear or hate.

That is our path.

Peace

With the greatest rewards come the greatest challenges.

The suffering I see as a bridge to tread over while staring down at the chasm that lies below it every step of the way.

The path itself holds no peril, but walking it and experiencing every aspect of it forces one to acknowledge the potential for peril inherent in the path.

The real peril lies in allowing oneself to stray from the path and to second guess one's progress along it. Look back or step backward and the amount of suffering that must be perceived along the way is only delayed or made to have to be experienced all over again.

If only it were merely a leap of faith. It's more like a hike that starts over each time one questions why one is suffering and fails to instead acknowledge why one is choosing to perceive what is of one's own making as personal suffering.

I will say that I am now finally convinced that this decision is not something you could get anyone else to follow no matter how hard you tried. Preaching NEVER works.

It is just too difficult and painful for most to even consider, much less understand. Why would they want to give up money, comfort, security to do what we have chosen to do?

It would seem utterly insane! *smile*

Well, maybe I am insane. We'll see, but I have made my choices. Now to see where the path leads.

May we all get there in our own way and time.

You seem to be forcing yourself into a decision that you are afraid to make. You want to do good and properly attain the life you were expected to have, and live, and yet you feel somewhat dis-satified with your choice because you find no joy in it.

I will not belittle you by saying "been there, done that", just like billions of others in this world. But I do believe it is a sence of priority that you haven't established for yourself because you are afraid of failing, either in your eyes or someone that you think of very highly. But to be honest, it still comes down to a very simple question. "What do you want and can you get it?"

If the answer is no, don't give up, just reschedule your life, and try again later. If the answer is yes, then what is wrong with it to where you are questioning the value of it?

To be honest, who ever told you that life was easy, or without pain and suffering? Who told you that just getting by is good enough? The answer to success is not how much it gives, but by how much did it cost? If it costs you a lifetime of regret, is it really a success? If it cheapens your life by the cost of sacrifice, have you really succeeded?

There is also a few last pieces of advice that I tell my children. Don't take life so seriously, you will never get out of it alive. Don't curse the storm, learn to dance in the rain. When you pin the tail on the donkey, keep a tight hold on the reigns. Never pass up a chance to jump in a puddle, or wish upon a rainbow. "After all, tommorrow is another day."

That is exactly what I have learned. I can't change them. It has to be THEIR choice if they want it. It is not for me to decide for them. This is not a path that one can just put on someone else. I didn't understand that years ago but I do now.
