This so-called behavioral targeting is coming under scrutiny, in part since Google bought one of the largest practitioners — DoubleClick — and recently announced it would start using its troves of user data to deliver targeted ads. Its main money makers, the small text ads next to search results and on websites across the net, simply rely on the words in a search or on a webpage to place ads, a tactic known as contextual ads.

Hook up DoNotTrackMe and use Duck Duck Go, not Google.

like buttons such as FB, G+, Twatter etc all track EVERY page you visit.

Including THIS one.

Unless you block them in settings

They do know your location, and search results will be close to your area.
Try using a proxy service and do a similar search.

If you have a static IP they can use your IP address instead of cookies.

None of that, I use a personal domain name for my email account. I don't go on YouTube, FaceBook or Twitter.

I'm concerned about this, they are getting around not using Cookies and I want to know how they are doing it?

In the meantime, I will look into some of the suggestions and I certainly won't be using Google anymore.

use tor browser so much better than a proxy... the military uses tor browser for their systems.

I forgot to ask...

When I edit my Hosts file, should I save a copy of the original somewhere in case I need it later? If I save it to my desktop would that be a safe place?

So why would you still be using Google...

You can create a copy in the original folder, it will be named "Copy of hosts". You dont really need it if you dont run any servers on your home PC.

Just checked, mine was altered 2011 to the hosts file linked above. Never noticed any troubles.

Today I typed in "national", and Google immediately listed below Southwest Airlines, Southwest reservations, etc.

It freaked me out.

I was going to type in National Weather Service, but after the one word national, Google didn't even wait for me to finish and decided it would respond with Southwest.

These may be related to search completition and not your tracking. When you type into the search, in the background google looks up what people searched for and suggests popular searches by other people. These are usually the most popular searches and most likely not related to your tracking.

Heh Ghostery plugin blocked the site, cause its tracking users. Speaking of which, Ghostery is also an anti-track plugin. Its created by a tracking company itself but still blocks a lot of shit

I've got to go for an appointment, will work on this later and let you know how it works.

TOR is terribly slow and I wouldn't trust those networks. You have no idea who is in control of them.
