I have the desire to just be alone, to eat little, to ignore the madness around me.

And I am happy about it.

I'm giving up too. I'm going to doll up, play politically correct doll, forget about what's going on in the world, find a man naive enough to buy into my new persona and provide for a nice home, raise a couple of kids and work in my fiel, write non crompromising articles, be friendly, smile and that's it. Refrain from questioning everything. And live happily ever after.

Certainly your capacity for pleasure is much reduced in that condition.

there's a lot to be said for being dumb. it quiets the mind.

i am always reminded of Harry Truman, who lived on the slope
of Mount St. Helens. and when the reporter asked him
"well, aren't you going to evacuate and get the hell out of here?", Harry replied: "i can't go down there to the city,
those people have got firestorms going on in their minds.

(needless to say, he was blasted to smithereens a few days later :)

I think happiness is more dependent on other things - attaining something, and because it's dependent on something else, it's not constant. Being content, however, means you're satisfied no matter what. You don't need to get something, or for something in particular to happen, in order to be content, you just are. It does not have the high/lows that happiness does.

I just do not see how withdrawing from the world, and becoming completely "dispassionate" about things and "apathetic," increase happiness.

Or rather, I do see how it can increase "happiness," but only when one's experience of the world has been painful.

To me, an engaged, passionate, adventurous life would be closer to ideal than dispassionate withdrawal.

But when life has been more pain than pleasure, then maybe withdrawal is a happier condition.

That is what I think this is ultimately about. Escaping from a life that brings more pain than pleasure, unhappiness than happiness.

I think it's more an emphasis on being content with yourself and not relying on people or things for that contentment. If your "happiness" is based on being adventurous, having a bunch of "stuff" and needing money to buy that stuff, a variety of different relationships, then there is a pretty big risk that if something prevents you from getting/maintaining those things (injuries, losing a job, arguments, etc.), you won't be happy. It's like being on a roller coaster, and your control is limited. If you're content on the inside, you don't need all of those things to remain in that state; you're in control.

You can still very much be engaged, just with different things, not so much the materialistic/superficial stuff or other people.

People have different passions. People can be passionate about what this entire thread is about - simplicity.

Btw, where I live, the "world" can be a very ugly place. Withdrawing from it is when I feel the most at peace! Being "out there," is a frightening and frustrating experience sometimes.

Pleasure or no pleasure, the problem is that we cannot make our mind quiet, truly quiet. We have become slaves to our own mind. It feels normal so we don’t realise the seriousness of this situation. A disturbed mind results in a disturbed world. Pleasure blinds us to this problem, which we do not wish to address.

Well, I wish you all peace. Whatever that takes is what you need to pursue.
I have learned to just let go of everything because I am very sick. It has been very liberating in a lot of ways. But also very hard in other ways.
I try to just keep peace and a quiet mind with no worries. I can't worry about what I cannot control and I cannot control anything but my own peace and that has been enough for seven years now.

I see the point you are making about "letting go" it is liberating. Be who you are no matter what others think.

I enjoyed this thread OP. thanks.

I wish you all peace and happiness. Do what makes you happy and feel at peace. Don't worry about the rest. I have found that somehow things just work themselves out. Stressing about it only causes unnecessary pain.

God bless you all!

This is the OP here. -

To any of my friends still following this thread, I have noticed a trend here that I would like to discuss.

There is no place to escape to now. There is no sanctuary to hide in like a place in the country or trying to live like the Amish.

This coming change is all about YOU. Nothing else. You can't escape it, you can't hide from it, you can't run from it. Every fear, hang-up, fear and doubt will now be tested to it's limits. What is coming is all of your fears in your face.

All you can do is to stop searching, stop looking for relief from the suffering of the world and face them head-on.

Completely let go....

Only when you completely let go of EVERYTHING:

Buying things
Wanting things
Wanting to escape
Wanting to hide
Wanting to run
Wanting to be someone or somewhere else.
Wanting to be wealthy
Wanting to live somewhere else.
Wanting love, forgiveness, peace

You have to no longer "want". No matter what it may be.

Just my opinion. Your choice though.

Peace

"Do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the law," is the Satanist credo.

They call self-restraint "repression," causing "neurosis." They champion "liberation" i.e. debauchery.

With the decline of religion, the only thing to restrain the primitive drives are social norms (laws). But with Satanists in control, social mores are changing, and things which were forbidden are now permissible.

Every is permissible,, everything is okay,, do what you desire,,, that's their mantra.

Society has become plastic throw away just like its products. Its values are plastic recycled and disposable junk.

They used to start building cathedrals knowing they would never see them finished..just for the joy of creating something beautiful ..now its all about profit and making a quick buck..life itself has become a means of making a quick buck

Before kids can walk they are taught to compete to make a quick buck

The art of living of savoring the moment of searching for beauty and love and emotional spiritual fulfillment is gone..

It has become a big mall where everything and everyone..or most are on sale..

Centuries ago..the intellectuals..the artists..the philosophers..the Saints..people of integrity and wisdom that created were the norm

Now its absolutely tacky..full of cheap values..women have forgotten how to be women and think a woman means one is supposed to be a whore. many men are confused and cant find their roles anymore.

The ones that cleaned out the ashtrays are now inviting to the dinner..so we are served..fast food on plastic plates

I've never had the desire to own a house, buy things, work for someone else (!), or watch TV/movies.

Music - I love and would probably miss it, at least at first. Sex - only when I'm in a relationship; other than that, I don't have a "need" to go out and get it when I'm single.
Friends - I have a few close friends, and would miss them. I do like to be alone a lot though.

My dream is to live out in the middle of nowhere, and not have people around me wherever I turn. I really feel like I can't breathe here anymore.

you are now "awake"...it is a depressing place to be knowing too much about the world. I know the pain as well...

this helps a little

Desiderata
Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.

keep learning and do your best to be annoyed in silence.

The tide is turning because many more of us are "awake" now..we might not see the change in our lifetimes but someday soon ignorance and darkness will be exposed and the people will not tolerate it anymore

be proud Indigo rainbow child..innocence will be champion again
