I wouldn't even talk about it any further with your family unless they are interested.

If you can't help it then describe everything as if you where aware that you where dreaming instead of Astral Projecting. A different choice of words will take away the occult/witchcraft belief system that the person will have. Everyone has dreams so it's easier to hear than someone astral traveling.

I would test by trying to see what clothes your family members are wearing and keep it to yourself. I haven't been able to prove to myself yet if I can see anything in real-time.

I may exit my body and check my family member clothes and then wake up to check only to find out they aren't even home. The mind will create whatever you expect to happen, it will also create fear and monsters when you feel vulnerable in sleep paralysis. If you feel vulnerable and hope that there are no monsters in your room then guess what? monsters! Once you understand this you can move on and experience the joy of traveling.
