I too had an encounter like the OP describes.

It was some 'dog-like' creature, sniffing around with its nose and mouth on my face.

Funny thing was I wasn't scared.

I believe if totem animals/spirits are real then the wolf/dog is my totem.
We don't know why exactly the natives believed in such things. Don't assume evil.

Sleep paralysis is simply the body shutting itself down and rerouting resources. Nothing evil about it.

That pressure in your chest is your heart chairs activating. That always happens during an out of body experience.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 45303961

Interesting...

When I was having these experiences and even before when I was much younger I had vivid dreams that I could always control.

Never went anywhere familiar but I swear to god I've had plenty of dreams where the wind was ripping @ my face, water was hitting it, the depth of the ground would grow or shrink depending on how high I would go. I knew I was flying and the excitement & joy from those experiences were like nothing I've ever experienced awake or asleep again.

Yes I do and I hate it. I am not as scared of it anymore but I still don't like it. I try and call out to get my partner to touch me as that wakes the asleep part of my brain up. I sound really scarey though, as it is an enormous effort and comes out sounding like a monster. LOL! Makes me scared my partner is going to die of shock, or run away thinking I am possessed by a devil. Hahahaha! As you can see I have developed a sense of humour about it. My partner still hasn't.

Can he hear you? I always thought the sounds we make are part of the Hallucination.
 Quoting: Lumen

Yes. It takes enormous effort on my part as I can't move anything. It takes all my willpower to get that sound out but even that doesn't help me move. It is only when I am grabbed that I can move. During it I can't move a finger - it really is scarey at first. Now I know what it is, I don't fear it but I hate it. It is horrible not to be able to move anything.

But yes I can get an audible but horrible sound out. Op said he woke his step brother so I guess he can too.
 Quoting: Anonymous coward 1408355

Yes. My step brother says i've done it numerous amounts of times but I can only recall a couple.

It starts out with me screaming and nothing coming out and that's where a lot of the fear starts. Trying screaming and not being able too, terrifying. But I would keep trying to scream and I eventually it breaks away so that when you can finally scream out loud you are already going full blast.

Think of an escalating scream like aaaaaaAAAAAHHHHHHHH lol

Dreamt of something drilling into the back of my neck, classical incubus dream I guess. Then I "woke up", but the thing was, I wasn't awake, I was still dreaming but just DREAMT I was awake, or thought I was awake while I was dreaming! Went back "to sleep" in my dream, only to have this drilling happen again. So I "woke up" again! But of course I wasn't again.

Sigh, long story short, cuz it goes on for a while, its intersting to realize that I thought I was awake when I was really still dreaming. Interesting huh?

Yah fear of this is natural only because our knowledge of this stuff has been held back. I don't remember an evil feeling either...it seemed more interested in me and I seemingly was not harmed. Maybe it's a guardian angel?

Another time my mind felt connecting to the source. I felt an increasing expansion of my consciousness.... I saw fractal patterns merging with othe patterns and I didn't feel like I could cope with the ever increasing information..... It felt infinate. I emember feeling like my mind was like USB connected to God.

I got scared and woke myself up.

There's so much we don't know.

But that's the fun part.

i have had this a few times over the years. I would wake up in my bed not really being able to move anything but my eyes and would feel something heavy on my chest. I would try to scream out and couldn't and it can be very frightening. usually i would just try to go back to sleep to make it go away. What causes it idk but it seems that it is very common in people cause i have heard so many other people with these experiences.

Re: My Sleep Paralysis and Experiences (please share if you have some as well!)
when i was 13, I had a terrible experience. It was at my moms house, which is 2 stories, in my room that was upstairs. I fell asleep at around midnight with my brother on the top bunk, I was on bottom.

Anyways, at about 2 AM I awoke to what sounded like multiple people in my room, talking and shuffling about. I firth thought it was my older brother, and friends....but when I tried to get up, I was completely paralyzed.

I could not even open my eyes, then the worst part happened. It felt like I had someone right in front of my face, I could even feel their breath on me. The person said something like, "do not fight it, you will make it hurt more".

Then I felt perhaps what was the worst pain I have ever felt, on my abdomen, directly on where your stomach is. This sensation was absolutely excruciating, it was like having w red-hot poker, being shoved into your gut. Then I blacked out until morning.

In the morning I got up, and immediately felt pain in the spot from the night before. I had went to be with a shirt on, but it was no where to be found when I got up...(it was actually NEVER found by the way). As soon as I stepped out of bed, my brother awoke, looked at me, and then screamed "what the fuck happened" pointing at my stomach.

I looked down, and saw a perfectly round circle, about 3/4 of an inch wide...that looked as though a round chunk of flesh, had been removed. This thing was so deep, that it went all the way into the outer lining of my stomach. However, there was no blood, and it looked as though it had been codderized, but the flesh was not burnt looking in any way.

Needless to say, I still have the scar to this day, and have never met anyone whom has had the same thing happen...nor even heard of anything similar taking place. My mother to this day, swears that "I did it to myself"

Well, I don't know how a 13-14 year old kid, could stand to carve out a 3/4 inch wide, and 2 inch deep hole into their own abdomen.

Anyways, this is all completely true, and has not been exaggerated in any way....so keep all of your asshole, fuck-stick comments to yourselves.

i've been dabbling for years, both projected and uninvited, and sometimes i catch myself in waking dreams i cant escape. im in my room the tv is on im watching it, and also having the waking dream at the same time so i know its lucid, it can be a real bitch trying to escape it if it goes wrong. i dont know if there is a way to control the dream/state you enter but for me they always seem to be random, and more often than not... terrible. i wouldnt try it unless you are in a very happy state of mind, as mine come without trying now, and im often in a confused state from the debacle that is our reality. it is definitely a powerful experience though.

Read the novel "Dream Reaper" ! It is all about an entity that has preyed upon sleepers throughout human history in every culture. HSP (hallucinatory sleep paralysis) is a known experience but this novel will really get you into the myth and mystery...and the terror of it all.

I don't think it is an hallucination. Nobody ever sees a big cuddly bunny who only wants to give them a hug and candy and tell them to have a nice day. If it was hallucinations you would experience that one would think at least once in awhile.

It's always evil, some kind of assault is involved. I had one. I was able to move, I felt it as it jumped on me. I heard the water slosh around in my waterbed as it pushed me down. If there is paralysis it's not because the victim is asleep. It's like what happens when you're walking down a road and turn around and there's a car about to run you over. You freeze in utter horror. If you're lucky the car misses you.

I know what I saw that night, I know what I did. None of it was a dream.

I was a victim too. I waged the war against what I thought was certain death. Then one night i decided... No more. I stopped fighting back and instead just went to sleep. Whatever wanted me could just have me. Better than all this torment. That was the end of it. When it started, I simply went to sleep. I knew that if I died I would be with God. It has been several years now, and no more monsters have returned. Apparently.. I was the monster. I was doing it to myself. When I refused to play my part as the victim... It all stopped.

Re: My Sleep Paralysis and Experiences (please share if you have some as well!)
I had sleep paralysis pretty common throughout much of my life but only since last year I had seen shadow entities while in the sleep paralysis state......and a few of them that I saw was while I am sleeping facing either right or left, with my back on the other side, so that clearly shows that you don't have to have paralysis while on your back to see such thangs...... So, my experiences proves that while sleep paralysis is common and normal, seeing entities in such a state is not, and such beings are clearly attracted to you if you are under stress or extreme negativity/mood swings.......

A few months ago I even saw a shadow entity while having sleep paralysis with my back facing left, and it wiggled its body a lot making me freaked out but when I regained movement it vanished and I checked my heartbeat with my hand and was surprised that it wasn't as fast I thought it was supposed to be......Am i getting more psychic or is my third eye chakra opening slowly?

Personally seeing shadows with no form and face is much more better than seeing Grays with their creepy black eyes lol......tounge

Anyway, as long as planet Earth still hasn't ascended to the 5th dimension, we will continue to see evil spirits and entities including bad humans until the angels AKA higher dimensional beings or good ETs decides to intervene and remove all of them from Earth.......I hope the departure date for those that don't want to ascend will be soon......

Astral projection. You are having an out of body experience. You're body woke up before your astral self can get back in. The fear you have is what normally happens to people who haven't had any training on astral projection. Buy a book on it and train yourself. As for the shadows, those are created by your mind. Be positive, and it will disappear.

Re: My Sleep Paralysis and Experiences (please share if you have some as well!)
I had something like this happen to me last night and something like this only happened to me once before.

so last night at around 9pm i was trying to go to sleep and i tried to get up and get something to drink but i couldn't move at all except opening my eyes. So i didn't really freak out i just tried to go back asleep. After like 10-15mins i still wasn't asleep so i tried to get up again and it felt like i just rolled over and fell off my bed. it felt so real that i even felt the pain in my back from falling off my bed. As i hit the ground i would open my eyes and i would still be on my bed face down like i was still unable to move. so i would close my eyes for a bit a try it again this time i got up and tried to walk to my door but i felt really light and lost my balance and fell backwards and hit my speaker and i opened my eyes again still faced down on my bed. At this point i started to freak out a bit thinking i wasn't gonna get out of this so i closed my eyes again and tried to go to sleep and this time it felt like i was floating in outer space and my hearing faded to nothing i couldn't hear my tv or fan. Then the blackness that was all around me turned to dreams it felt like i could create whatever i want and it felt so real. I woke up the next day fine it was a really cool experience but terrifying at first.

Re: My Sleep Paralysis and Experiences (please share if you have some as well!)
I used to have Sleep paralysis 5 to 10 sometimes more times a night I never seen anything just an overwhelming sense of terror and a feeling of dread.

But I know it sounds cliché and what not but I started praying nightly because once you go months without sleep you start thinking outside the box. Since I have started praying nightly I have only had one occurrence within like the first week and I fought it off as it started ( don't know if you have had this but it starts off as a feeling of static all over you and sometimes I seen yellow flashes).

Now was this a case of mind over matter or is it something else, I don't know and there is no way to tell what actually happened to me but I offer you these words so that you can get through your own episodes I know it bothered the shit out of me

Do you sleep on your back? It's more likely to occur in that position. Sleeping on your stomach should reduce the frequency in which it occurs. Also, if you go to bed on an empty stomach - that can also increase the frequency in which it occurs. This is what I have read on the subject matter, no from personal experience. I always sleep on my stomach and I've only experienced sleep paralysis once in my life. You can also induce it during longer sessions of relaxation/meditation. Basically your body is 'asleep' while your conscious mind is still 'awake'. It takes a bit to 'reconnect'. As somebody mentioned in this thread, next time you find yourself unable to move and wanting to regain your motor ability/functionability, try to remember to wiggle one of your big toes.... It's supposed to be a pretty effective method for restoring functionality.

I've had many sleep paralysis experiences, I haven't had one in a few years and I'm fine with that.

Usually it's the same deal with not being able to move and sensing a presence and or seeing the shadow people. The worst experience was much like one of yours.

Something was sitting on my chest and growling, I felt the life was being sucked out of me, whatever it was wanted me dead. It's grip was getting tighter and tighter, I could not move.

It was saying something in a growley voice and I can't for the life of me tell you what "it" said. I was so scared, in my mind I said "help me Jesus". I woke up instantly.

It's a terrifying experience for anyone who hasn't had an episode.

One cause of sleep paralysis, is sleep apnea, where you have shallow and contricted breathing.

What I discovered, is once I got a fan, and an angled pillow (this cause the head to tilt and mouth to stay open), this reduced the sleep paralysis by over 90%.

Also I found fear, seemed to induce the paralysis, so have ways to combat fear.

Are the shadowy figures we see during the paralysis, real entities, or just part of the mind?

I don't know.

It's speculated, that during the paralysis, a part of the mind is still asleep and dreaming, but another part is awake.

So since a part of the mind is still sleeping, you may literally start dreaming, with eyes fully awake and aware, hence you seeing these figures.

But I'm still not certain, if these entities we see are real, or just a product of the mind.

There's a case where 2 brothers, both had sleep paralysis in a home, at separate times. Both described seeing, a woman, and they both described her exactly the same. They did research, and found a woman died there. They saw her picture, and discovered it was the same woman they saw during the paralysis. If true, this shows, what's being seen, is much more than a product of the mind.

I've read that theory before, sounds reasonable. However, why do people the world over see and hear the same things? I would think the experiences would vary.

Re: My Sleep Paralysis and Experiences (please share if you have some as well!)
I experienced this as a child and teenager, but never had it again after I moved out of my parents home. Woke up, couldn't move or talk, I wanted to scream. I learned that if I just closed my eyes and woke up in the morning, everything was fine.
