UPDATE: COMET DRAMA
Comet comes close in 2005
Comet breaks into numerous fragments.

(as) Comet comes close in April 2006
Main Comet fragments and begins to crumble and huge chunks fall off and behind and veer away chaoticly and are left behind as some of these fragments will criss cross all around Earth's orbital ring as Earth swings around on approach.

NASA assures that original "named" cometary fragments will pass at a safe distance for each "main sizeable" "named" fragments...

However wild card fragments may make life interesting and even prove to put on an interesting show for us here on Earth to say the least---
