If you think you are too weak to quit your vices, should we turn to God and ask for help? Or is it something we should be able to solve ourselves?

Yes, and though I'm not here to sell books LOL the best advice I ever found to deal with this is Joel Furhman's Eat to Live. It is both a weight loss and general health book. If you spend a few weeks eating very high nutrient food, your body will get the things it is looking for in artificial stimulants, relaxants, and foods that provide short term gratification but no real nourishment.

Not saying that I'm very good at staying on the program, but I've done his eating plan enough to know for sure that he is correct. You still need willpower, but a deeply nourished body will have a lot more willpower. Exercise helps a lot, too. Good luck with whatever it is.

I'm kind of a fucked up case, I;m not fat, but have a "eating shitty food" problem. I'm not an alcoholic, but drink every day, I don't smoke, but if I do, I'll smoke the whole pack in 2 days...

Everyone struggles with something, whether it's cigarettes, alcohol, weed, sweets, cheesburgers, etc. Moderation if you can. Get control of your mind, it's easier than you think. Alcohol is the one that will kill you if you withdraw too fast, not even heroin does this, though still not pleasant. Grass is the most benign of all most common vices, and some experts say it's actually beneficial in moderation. If you need to stop whatever your problem vice is, ween down a little but every other day, and you can lick anything.

It is a matter of will alone. Don't try to change. DO change. Don't think about changing, DO change. It's really as simple as that. And don't think you can; KNOW you ARE. And don't change over time, change immediately. Just stop it completely no matter how hard it is, if you set your mind to it its the easiest thing you could do.

One of my problems is my wife works a hard fucked up job, I have 3 days away from her-some times I'm great..eat good, no drinking, etc. then I know on the 4th day I'm going to have to deal with her and some of her job b/s so I drink, take some pills to numb it down a little. A psychologist would most likely say I use this as my enabler.

Is this something I should be able to do myself...or ask for help from a higher power?
