BINGO! Exactly my thoughts upon reading this in the WP. What a script. So predictable.
"Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance."

Re: DC Navy yard shooter suffers from Ptsd
A comprehensive history of PTSD as far as mass shootings is concerned:

- Robert Bales is speculated to have had PTSD because he was once involved in a vehicle accident and saw a companion get injured. His lawyer said he knows all about PTSD because he saw the ending of a sad movie once or something like that. The media hires rent-a-experts and informs the masses about how PTSD makes people into killers. TV and games begin incorporating this mythology in their scripts.

Then Bales finally gets his sentencing hearing. His lawyer expresses sympathy to the jury about subjecting them to the needless back and fourth of experts about his clients PTSD, so chose not to put such an expert on the stand to save his client from a life sentence. Or, in other words: he did not have an expert to back him up! This is further corroborated by earlier trying to dismiss his expert and replace him with a knew one, the guy was window shopping because his expert would not back him up.

Now, regardless of this fact he will forever be known to the wider idiotic public as that shooter who killed many because he suffered from PTSD. Obama seems to think it; hence, why he announced a grant on PTSD and TBI within a week of his hearing.

- The shooter of Chris Kyle is alleged to have had PTSD, although a diagnosis wasn't clear. He went to a firing range voluntarily, so the idea he thought everyone was a threat seems like nonsense. PTSD is a sensitization, it scares you away from doing stuff. It is a flight, not fight, reaction. It causes you to cower, hence shell shock. Some reports indicated they weren't even sure he served.

- The Navy shooter was at September 11 and it is speculated he had PTSD. The 'informed' public immediately leapt to the conclusion: oh, that's why. It seemed natural. I witnessed this reaction personally. These people didn't need to know any more, he had PTSD! Ignoring the fact that his alleged specific PTSD is completely unrelated to the military kind that can involve shooting. It's like saying the millions who suffer from child abuse PTSD, wife abuse PTSD, car accident PTSD, emergency services PTSD, and on and on... can all instantly make someone into a mass murderer.

Put this into context: It makes sense to the idiotic public to think revenge is PTSD. Hence, why they assume Bales' revenge was a result of the sensitization of PTSD (in actual fact, revenge with PTSD seems to concern re-experiencing phases only, and in my experience it's thoughts of revenge in the future like 'some day I'll get my own back' that quickly subsides once the re-experiencing is over because you want to cut things out of your minds eye unless you are being forced to experience them; revenge is the furthest from a PTSD persons mind, because they are either cowering in the re-experiencing phase or trying hard not to think of it at all outside the re-experiencing phase). But why would a person shoot up the place if he witnessed ground zero on September 11?

---

Those are the only 3 incidents I know of. Notice how they all occur within the last few years? Where was the PTSD shooter before 2012?
