Possible, Dogs can sense things we humans cannot.

When I was a kid, our family dog barked in a corner of the house for about a half hour, something was there.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46279318

I have heard of pets seeing things. So I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by my dog's reaction to whatever she was seeing. It just gave me a very weird feeling is all..watching her reaction to something I couldn't see or hear.

my cats play in the middle of the floor. They always do the digging motion as if a mouse is right under them. Thing is... we have a basement so the digging is what?? All we have is sub floor and hard wood. OMG! Maybe we have termites and my cats can hear them!!!

Ask it to leave with conviction and in peace, they also say to light incense and take it through your home covering all corners

Animals can sense and see things in the spiritual realm that we can't. They sort of act as a protector from the evil things in the spiritual realm, in that those on the other side are wary of entering a home with an animal, UNLESS the owner is oblivious to this fact and has no spiritual power with which to banish them. The animals act as kind of a first alert. The savvy intelligent beings will cloak themselves so the animal doesn't sense them, but I've found that most are dumbasses who can't cover their trail. If you have a fine-tuned spiritual radar (from the Holy Spirit), you don't need a dog/cat to alert you to danger. Your own intuition does a far better job.

Anyway, I would suggest that, when that situation arises again, because they do come and go in your house, that you engage in spiritual warfare by rebuking them in the name of Jesus to leave immediately and never return,or else you'll have them sent to the Pit. Or, if you're sensing it, to shortcut the leniency and send them straight to where they belong immediately. I've done both, depending on how The Lord leads. Some are more evil than others and deserve to be locked up right away. Others, deserve a little more time.

Go to your kitchen. Ask if there is someone there. Ghosts need alot of energy to manifest. If one is there, it may kick the fridge on to gain energy. (or AC) I noticed this pattern in a house I lived in years back. Never figured it out until I found out they were trying to get energy.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46329063

I've noticed this too. They like to enter through electrical outlets with a popping sound.

Re: Is my dog seeing a ghost in my house??
Have you recently moved into the house?
Have you heard any strange noises in the house?
has the dog ever acted this way before in a another house?
How long have you had the dog?
How long has the house been there?
how are you feeling in the house when this is happening?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46467798

1. No. Been here a little over 3 years now.
2. I hear noises all the time, but it's an older duplex..looks to be built in the 80's sometime?
3. This is the only house she has lived in. She's only 9 mo. old and I got her as a puppy.
4. To be quite honest. I would NEVER have attempted to "talk" to it if I was alone tonight. But my husband and my daughter are here and sleeping. I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to talking to entities. This is my first time trying to and I only did it because I was so convinced, based on my dogs behavior, that she was really seeing something.

Yes, I believe that dogs have that extra sense that helps them be aware of entities, danger, etc. You should always trust a dog that has proven itself over the years.
 Quoting: Big Irish Bastard

She is still very much a puppy at only 9 mo. old. But again..not sure if "it" deliberately scared her or the fact that she didn't understand what she was seeing. Like it was unfamiliar to her.

Possibly, my newer dog displayed similar behaviour, but never cowered behind me..the diff is that we know we have rats in the walls, we cant hear them but he can, both of them can but this one likes to think its his job to be on their case all the time, which is great.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14966817

We use to have a mouse problem but haven't seen any evidence of any for a while now. So I suppose that could be what she was hearing. Here's what caught my attention though..I could tell by her body language and her expression on her face she was literally afraid of something she was SEEING! There was no doubt in my mind that she was seeing something. Not just hearing. You know how when a dog hears something they will perk their ears up, cock their head and stand at attention while kind of wagging their tail. Her body language was such that she saw something that frightened her. She was literally cowering and ducking her head in fear.
 Quoting: Lady Wolf

I would have to guess that she heard/smelt a snake and your body language might have cemented a fear...at a guess.

We live in snake country and my dogs are so blasé about snakes that I nearly trod on a red belly black two days ago...I feel they are this way because I am blasé as well...but I might have to rethink my strategy here. We have recently found out that my other dog is highly suspicious of scarecrows, which is incredible funny to us, so we have sort of encouraged it, mostly because he doesn't get his knickers in a knot over it , he just yells "fuck off" to them.

The dog that I was first talkin bout is a rescue dog and doesn't have such a good sense of humour, so we are a little more careful of what we encourage

If you have no evidence of mice, that would mean you would have less than 100 or so running around in the walls and ceiling of your house.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14966817

Very well could be. Glad that snake didn't get you. I'm not familiar with the red belly black, but it sound dangerous or poisonous? I suppose she could have reacted to my reaction. She can be such a lil frady cat sometimes. She is Golden, Lab, Beagle mix but looks just like a Golden Retriever. Her father was pure bred Golden and she definitely takes after him! We took her camping with us once and my daughter took her two dogs. They all heard some rustling in the bushes. Both my daughter's dogs barked aggressively at what was most likely a deer and what does my dog do? Turns tail and hides underneath my husband's chair while looking up at him with a "save me!!" expression on her face! My husband looked at her and said, "some watch dog you are!!" LOL!!! She really is quite a frady "cat" lol

Re: Is my dog seeing a ghost in my house??
ok...this is obviously a thread for the open minded. But I swear my dog is seeing some sort of an entity in my house and it's very scary to her! She keeps looking up at the ceiling and down my hallway and acting afraid..as in head ducking while surreptitiously looking up, backing up looking scolded and whining. Just as if she would if a stranger were to walk in wearing a scary looking mask! After several minutes of watching her, I finally decided to be brave or stupid?? And try to find out "who" or "what" was in my house. I asked several questions to whomever or whatever it was and the whole time Callie, my dog is cowering behind me and peaking out at whatever only she can see! Wth??

Anyone have any ideas here? Btw...no response what-so-ever from whatever was frightening her. Do dogs hallucinate? And before anyone asks, I don't nor have I ever done drugs. I've never even been drunk before.

I use sage. It drives demons away. Look up online where to buy sage. A store by me sells it.
When me and my ex were together years ago she had a black cat. And one night he was staring into the bedroom from the kitchen. He was looking and moving around as if he was scared. He was definitely seeing something. This went on for almost an hour. It was at night so the bedroom light was off. I went and turned the light on and off and he still wouldn't stop looking. At that time I wasn't a where of sage. Now I burn it every three months.

Re: Is my dog seeing a ghost in my house??
I also tried taking a walk down the hallway and turning the hall light on and then off again. No electrical interference nor did I notice any change in temperature in that location.

I live in the foothills of California nearest "critters" would be the cow field behind my house. Maybe a Coyote or two? If she was just whining and acting scared I would pin it up to a skunk or raccoon outside. But she was literally looking up at the ceiling like she really could see something and it was obviously very scary to her.

Anyone know why whatever it was didn't accept my offer of conversation? I've never done this before, but I swear my dog saw something??
 Quoting: Lady Wolf

If you are a believer in the "there is something else out there" world....then you should know not to try and engage them in conversation.
...it opens the door a little wider for them to do more.

Don't be so sure your offer wasn't accepted. hiding
 Quoting: Useless Cookie Eater

Well..the way I see it, since I've never talked to talk to the "open air" before..whatever it was or is in MY home must be trying to get my attention as it obviously didn't have a problem scaring my dog?? While I'll admit I'm curious if such things really do exist, I've never been so curious as to try to satisfy that curiosity. But tonight was just different somehow. That and I'm not convinced that all entities are bad. As I said..I have a very open mind when it comes to the unknown.

Yes, we have to be carefu about our behaviours as we have two full male dogs that are not related....and the second one came to us as an 18 month old dog to live with our 12 month old dog...12 month rules with a iron paw and a soft heart , its wonderful to watch another dog go to a dog and "say"..."you ok, mate" after scolding the older dog for silly behaviour..not often thankfully

We have a rule that while WE make the rules the original dog enforces some of them
I will bet any money that your dog is hearing something in the walls that she doesn't like or understand, then you reinforce it. Dogs are like small children and not necessarily afraid O' no ghosts.

Just tell her to "stop it, its just mice" and sit back and relax, show your body language to be unbothered and she will be as well...you da boss

Yes. I was raised in a cult like religion..don't want to say which denomination as I wouldn't want to offend anyone here who might still belong to it. Suffice it to say..upon leaving said church, I began to question much of what I was told was "truth." I sometimes feel guilty for my skepticism and hope that the verse in the bible about luke warm Christians is one of those added in later by the translators and not how God really feels. I mean I guess I feel that He gave me a brain for reason. And that is to use it. And if the verse about working out our salvation with "fear and trembling" is also true, than I suppose that is what I'm doing. I have been hurt and mislead by many I have trusted over the years, I guess that is why I try to think for myself now. Thank you for your prayers. You are very kind. hf

Re: Is my dog seeing a ghost in my house??
Symptoms : The symptoms of this disease are very striking and can be disturbing to watch. In its classical form these dogs appear to be staring fixedly at objects far in the distance or watching imaginary flies buzzing in front of their faces and then trying to bite these imaginary flies. When they are having an attack they can spend a considerable amount of time engaging in this behaviour even to the detriment of eating, drinking, socialising and sleeping. On a lighter note I have occasionally known owners concerned that affected dogs are staring at some supernatural phenomenon which humans cannot see!

Re: Is my dog seeing a ghost in my house??
Do you have a smoke detector in that hallway that may have gone off?
That noise would scare almost anything.

We do have a smoke detector but it's in a different hallway..not the hallway she was reacting to. But good suggestion!

Your dog is most likely watching a fly or other insect. One of those bugs too small and washed out into the background for you to notice (like some spiders).

Now if you see your dog start playing fetch by itself...

They don't have to respond right away to you opening the door wider.
They have all the time in the world and will pick when it is best for them.

Well THAT'S a bit unsettling if this really is a malevolent entity! lol

Well....I am with you in that I believe there are good and evil spirits....and some are just those who don't want to cross over and like to be pranksters.

Regardless though....inviting them / opening the door wider for them is unwise.
Some are not what they seem at first.

Yes, I have heard this. I guess because it was affecting my dog so much I just decided to risk it. Hope it wasn't the wrong judgement call on my part. I guess we shall see.

She is a healthy mix:) Her father was pure bred Golden and her mother a Lab Beagle mix. She looks just like a Golden though, but plays like a Lab lol
