Usually in the Bahamas there aren't many tornadoes, yet there are simple and harmless waterspouts. Only when they are on land are they classified as a tornado with less damage. They are less of a threat because they are made of condensation and water molecules.



You are right they are rare, but from the quote in your link I'd say this one was a different rare.
