FOX in my urban backyard!
I woke up to an ominous feeling this morning because the sky was glowing pink, and my bedroom was a different color. It was eerily quiet too.

I got up and drank my coffee, about to open up the sliding glass door to feel the temp and sitting in my backyard is a beautiful red fox! I've never seen a fox in the wild, only dead ones along side roads but I live in an urban area, extremely urban, homeless people live 2 blocks away from me. I couldn't believe my eyes! I woke up my husband and called for my little girl to come and see the fox. It was so big too, this was the last thing I ever expected to see in my backyard.

I just can't believe that we have foxes in my neighborhood! I've lived in forest areas and never seen a fox. This was so close to home.

Now we have the total camping experience with the fire pit my husband built and now the fox! My little girl said "I hope we don't see a bear next!".

What other wild animals can I expect to see in urban areas? I have squirrels and hawks and just saw my first raccoon last week too. I smell the skunk sometimes but never seen him. But the fox just seemed so out of place.

I'm still shocked! I've never experienced this kind of normal. I was going to take a picture but when I opened the door it ran away.

We don't have any pets but we do have lots of cats in the neighborhood. Driving my kids to school this morning I saw a couple roaming around and was a little concerned. This fox was huge, didn't look hungry, and I don't know what else he would eat out here, besides the little rodents.

We always have a few familes of red fox on or near our property.

Theyare beautiful and the kits are entertaining to watch.
Be aware though that fox can carry rabies and other diseases.

They are also cunning. They will frequent an area where their prey is such as sheep or perhaps cats and let the animal become somewhat habituated or comfortable with them.
Then the they go in for the kill.

Believe that if you want but a fox is naturally an elusive solitary carnivore and will not hang around if there is no prey available, especially if there is a litter involved. hf

Thats so cool, huh? Arent they beautiful? I have only seen one my entire life, and I was driving a country road (that I drove at least twice daily for 8 years). We lived 15 miles from town.

Yes, beware of coyotes. Never saw them in the country up north, but here in texas they are right in our neighborhood. And raccoons. Big ones!

Have your camera ready and with you at all times so you can get a pix of that fox!

I've been watching all morning outside to see if he comes back. I noticed a cat go behind my shed, I told my husband that's probably the last we will see of him, but he came out from behind. I got my nail clippers and stepped out into the Florida room to clip my nails out the window and I heard the squirrels making their distress call and there he was again, peering from behind my neighbors shed! He's hunting squirrel today.

My husband grabbed his camera for pics!

A lot of people don't realize foxes are actually a canine species that can climb trees.

The Russian govt. dedicated tons of $ and resources to domesticating the wild fox through selective breeding. I watched a documentary about it, was pretty interesting:

LOL, I was making a joke to my husband a couple weeks ago because we don't have grass in our backyard, just weeds, it used to be a beautiful garden that the owner took care of before we moved in but we let it go. Anyway, we saw a groundhog back there a couple weeks ago and I told him to trim the weeds because next thing we'll have monkey's back there! Well, we got a raccoon just last week now a fox! I love it! Just can't let the kids play back there anymore without an adult with them. My husband said the backyard is alive, seeing such a variety of life out there is awesome! We also have wild strawberries I used to pick with the kids but I guess I'll just leave them for the animals now.

I saw the fox again today. I can't believe it's just out hunting in broad daylight, today's sighting was at 3:30 in the afternoon, AND it was hunting squirrels with a cat. Apparently the cat and the fox are friends.

Now I feel like I have photos of big foot, I only capture blurry sightings of it and nobody believes me! Here he or she is going behind the bushes.
