Some people DO use it as a way of life. Some people don't.

The welfare system was created as a temporary assistance program. Unfortunately, it has become a permanent way of life for loafers.

No one wants to kick down those that absolutely need assistance. But when able-bodied people use it as an end goal, it becomes a drain on everyone else footing the bill.

No, because if you qualify for food stamps you qualify for the government to pay for your insurance too. Duh.

It's a very simple formula, anyone that needs food stamps is arguing for them and people who don't yet are against them. When a person who doesn't becomes a person who does, his position will change like the weather

What I want to know is ow long any of you think your going to be able to hold on to what you have in this economy, which is essentially gutting the middle class tat almost all of us belong to and creating two classes instead of three.

None of you posting here are in the upper crust. You ave to pay taxes that fund te government entitlements programs and the upper crust doesn't, that's why your pissed off about people getting food stamps.




I think people capable of working who are on any kind of entitlement program should be put to work doing something that needs to be done to earn the money instead of just giving out handouts. It would be better for them and for the rest of us.

When the last company I worked for went bust, they gave me a form I could use to apply for unemployment. I framed it, hung it on my wall, then started my own business. Never took one cent from the government.

The implied warrant in your statement is that people who are in favor of reducing the food stamp program by this minuscule amount ($4 billion per year out of $83 billion)want to cancel it. That is nonsense. If people really need it they should have it.

However, when more than 100 million people receive government food assistance, a number greater than the total number of full-time private sector workers in the US, it becomes pretty clear that the government's priorities need to shift from creating dependency to creating jobs.

I have a lot of time for this argument. However, who's to say that people won't refuse to vote for Republicans if they play it this way? "I voted for that idiot because I want the government to spend less money, and there he goes letting Democrats get away with the same crap again! Hell, I might just as well stay home!"

Also, won't that make it easier for the sheep to fall for the argument that it proves that there's no difference between Democrats and Republicans any more? Do you know how manny families will be affected by this? How many children ? The mentality that everybody that is lazy takes food stamps is ridiculous! Do you know how many families have lost everything and that is their only meal until they get better? It happened to me ! To proud ,I can survive and I did ,but there was a time in between that I needed help, for my children and my sanity and their health! It lasted until I found work ', but for 4 months that help me, and I am greatful. They maybe don't care they have money, they will never be hungry or the doctor go to their house,they have insurance paid by us! Heck yea I am grateful.what they are doing is wrong.

How about getting some decent jobs for these people - in !968 minimum wage was $1.60 an hour - In todays money that would be $10.40 - SO minimum wage is what $7.50 now - Looks like thay have not kept up cost of living increases. So if they think that 7.50 can support a family good luck...maybe the GOP should live off of todays minimum wage for a few months so they can see how these people live.

Maybe the fed should stop devaluing the dollar so all our money goes further. Maybe people should take responsibility for their actions and not breed them if you can't feed them.

They need to be job creating as no one likes food stamps. I haven't heard a single person saying I need t quit my full time job making 15 an hour so I can get food stamps. WalMart needs to change being able to not mak eyou full time and increase to what they pay in Australia for minimum wages there. These rip off fast foods with housing costs those with children can't make it on miniumum wage and their 25 or at most 30 allowed to work and not cooperating with second job times.

And how many of those 100 million people are the working poor? Why don't we just cut the whole program and save that $85 billion a year for something else. Who cares that any impacts in funding to the program will result in direct job losses for those in the food industry whether it be production, distribution or retailing. In fact many of those who would lose their jobs due to a cut in food aid would most likely be those already receiving food aid as working poor. But that's ok these people should get out there and start a business because ended up jobless with no food will certainly motivate them. Also who cares if everyone else has to now bag their own groceries cause stores laid off the worker who used to do it. And what's paying 20% more in food costs for everyone else who doesn't receive food assistance matter. I'm sure people will be able to just absorb the added costs now that food subsidies no longer exist. Oh that's right even if you don't receive food stamps your food costs are still being subsidized whether or not you realize it by the added purchasing power of everyone else that does. And explain again how exactly you want the government to create jobs?? Kind of ironic that you seem anti government social welfare programs the government shouldn't be protecting people after all, but you want the government to create jobs?? The private sector should be creating the jobs not the government. Why don't expand your business since it's so easy economically out there nowadays. You could hire on some workers and pay them a living wage, show them what it's like to work hard and succeed with ease. Or you could pay them minimum wage, have the government subsidize their food and health care costs, all while you collect larger profits for yourself.
