Anyone else notice how cyclists are getting more entitled?
I live in a city. I am more than happy to share the road with cyclists. In fact, I welcome the diversity of travel! However, as of the last year or so, I have noticed ...a change in their behavior.

As of late, cyclists here in Denver have decided that they do not need to stay in their bike lane, and in fact just ride right in the middle of the car lane, as though they are cars.

Just the other night, I was driving down 6th, which is a fairly busy street. There was plenty of room for this fellow to move to the bike lane, but instead he decided to park in the middle of the right line, directly in front of me. I felt slight annoyance, but because we were at a red light, I figured it was all good...he'll move over when the light turns green and let me and the other five cars behind us pass and go along. Sharing the road and all!

Well nope, this bugger decided to stay front and center, slow as molasses in winter, holding up the whole line of cars. So slow that I was only half way through the intersection when the light turned yellow.

So, I honked at him. A short, polite, "please move over sir, there are several vehicles trying to get through this light" honk.

Well, the bugger spun his head around cursing and flipped me off! I rolled down my window and told him he was blocking traffic and he told me to "suck" his "dick". I laughed out loud at this. And drove on my way.

But my question is, isn't it illegal for them to block traffic? AND why are they so entitled? I've spoken to several people who have had similar encounters with bikers on the road. WTF is this all about?

They have been doing that in Florida for years. Packs just taking over the road where the cars should be. rockonI don't really mind them, they tend to be in shape and look cute in the martian helmets but if you're in a hurry and end behind them good luck!

We don't have bike lanes here in Cow Land. Most of the cyclists are nice and stay close to the shoulder so traffic can go around them. But some need to be run over.

Like the assholes who ride down the center of the road and block the combines. Those things go slow enough without have to wait for a cyclist to pedal his dainty little feet a little harder.

In most jurisdictions I'm aware of bicycles are vehicles and have full access to city streets, that means they can use all lanes any other vehicle has access to.

And as a side note, you likely will soon be priced out of the gasoline market, so I suggest getting a bike yourself, and start riding through the city to see what your future will be like.

Oh don't worry there. I own several bikes. I ride them all the time. Annnd I'm moving OUT of the city.

ONCE AGAIN the issue I am asking about is BLOCKING the FLOW of traffic.

they should be MADE to pay road tax, and have to disply their tax on their bikes. they want equality, let's give them equality.

also, cops can start clamping down on the cunts riding three abreast too

Wow!

I think it's time to start shutting down roads to cars in areas where there are lots of bikes.

Talk about entitlement, wtf.

Unfortunately they have the right-of-way, unless your state has specific laws barring cyclists from riding IN traffic, like the law that bars cyclists from riding on the expressways because bicycles aren't motorized vehicles (they're classified as non-motorized vehicles).

For example, here are some Georgia laws for cyclists (I shared two (in-part) from the manual but there are much more listed in the manual:

(a) Every person operating a bicycle upon a roadway shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as practicable, except when turning left or avoiding hazards to safe cycling, when the lane is too narrow to share safely with a motor vehicle, when traveling at the same speed as traffic, or while exercising due care when passing a standing vehicle or one proceeding in the same direction; provided, however, that every person operating a bicycle away from the right side of the roadway shall exercise reasonable care and shall give due consideration to the other applicable rules of the road.
And:

(c) Whenever a usable path has been provided adjacent to a roadway and designated for the exclusive use of bicycle riders, then the appropriate governing authority may require that bicycle riders use such path and not use those sections of the roadway so specified by such local governing authority. The governing authority may be petitioned to remove restrictions upon demonstration that the path has become inadequate due to capacity, maintenance, or other causes.

Check your state's cyclist laws because they might be different from Georgia's.

Unless MINIMUM speeds are posted - there is NO OFFENSE!
They are a wheeled vehicle and are ENTITLED to as much road as they want. The bike lanes were put in to help - not segregate riders. There is no law requiring them to use them - but there are laws forbidding they use the sidewalks or go opposite traffic as was done decades ago.
The MASS ACTION riders are making a statement that they do indeed pay taxes and are sick of cars sideswiping them and running them down. It is very dangerous to ride unprotected with cars whizzing by.

I've noticed people in general seem to be more self entitled lately, kids and adults alike, I chalk it up to lack of discipline growing up and something being in the air.
