Re: I need a list of good doom/shtf movies..
Go to your library and check out the 1996 TV series Millennium. It ran from 1996-1999. It begins as an early profiler type series of serial killers but delved into a secret organization preparing for the Apocalypse and demonology.

It generally was an excellent series and the ongoing nature of television allows for a true conspiracy/doom/shtf story.

Some of the episodes dealing with the many manifestations of the demon (I sure won't spell out his name) were really freaky.

If you choose to watch Millennium, but are unsure if you'll like it, try episode S01E04. It's about a Judge who uses excons to create his own justice since the legal system isn't working. It turns out, he's been around a long long time. It is seriously creepy for anyone who believes in the very real presence of evil.

Here's some films from places other than Hollywood.

Retreat (2011)
A couple experiencing some tragedy and hardship, go to a remote island to rekindle their love. While there, a soldier washes up on the shore. He tells them there is a pandemic that has affected the world but without their knowledge. Creepy pandemic BBC doom at the level of a few individuals.

Hell (2011)

A German film about solar doom. The world is experiencing the effects of a change in solar radiation. Nothing will grows anymore for the people we meet, and hasn't for three years, and water a constant problem.

The Edge (1997)

On of the best survival films as it deals with three guys with no survival skills (one has theoretical knowledge) and how it plays out in the Alaska wilderness. Not realistic but immensely entertaining.

Touching the Void (2003)

Two mountain climbers who truly were not ready for their climb and ill-prepared, go on a climb, and this recreates their real life experience trying to survive and find their way back. Absolutely compelling especially for any real life rock climber who has wondered about the realities of mountain climbing. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time during the movie.

127 Hours (2010)

The true story of Aron Ralston, a canyoneer who fell into a crevice, got pinned on a boulder, and managed to survive and walk out to live again for another day. Absolutely inspiring.

Don't give up...

Some more survival films about when the SHTF

Alive (1993)

The true story of the 1972 air crash in the Andes of a soccer team. The first survived by stripping out the gear from the airplane and staying put (the smartest decision since they would have died had they tried to walk out in those conditions without the proper clothing). You always stay with the plane for that is easier to spot.

They ate up whatever food was on board including anything like toothpaste to get some calories. Then it became grimmer. I'll leave you to watch it. Many survived.

The Grey (2011)

A group of returning Alaskan roughnecks go down in their plane in the middle of nowhere. It's hard enough to survive under blizzard conditions, but then they are set upon by wolves. While the wolves part is not scientifically accurate (wolves rarely have attacked in history with some recent cases coming to light in Eastern Europe), it is a thrilling movie.

Into the Wild (2007)

The true story of Christopher MacCandless. A young man unwilling to follow the well trod path, gives away his savings and then embarks upon a journey of his own choosing. He works his way through the American heartland, saves up his money earned as a field hand, then travels to Alaska.

There he tries to apply all of his book knowledge with a view of the romance of adventure and Nature. Of course, she is a cruel mistress as you will see, and won't tolerate naivete.
