Why some continue to refer to them this way is most likely due to a lack of updated information.

Scientists and astronomers have an idea of what comets are, yet they are still mysterious objects, and there is still a lot to learn about them.

The Oort cloud is a theory.
It is not a fact. It has never been directly imaged. The theory is derived simply from the trajectories of comets. They come from all angles. If you have a better theory, share it!

NASA does not own the sky.
For those that keep questioning the amount of data they
release, then quit relying on them.
There are countless amateur astronomers all over the world
that take amazing images and discover objects on their own.
Many objects have been discovered by amateur and backyard astronomers.
