Why isn't Paul Gilbert more famous?
Looking at the work he produced and his guitar skills at Chuck Norris level, he should be at least as renown as Guns 'n Roses, just to name something.

Paul Brandon Gilbert (born November 6, 1966 in Illinois, U.S.) is an American musician, best known as the guitarist for Racer X and Mr. Big, as well as many solo albums and numerous collaborations and guest appearances with other musicians.
Gilbert has been voted number 4 on a list in GuitarOne magazine of the "Top 10 Greatest Guitar Shredders of All Time",[1] as well as a spot in Guitar World's "50 Fastest Guitarists of All Time" list.[2]

Paul Gilbert - Olympic (2010)

Give this one a minute, as soon as the James Hetfield-tune begins, the show starts.

Paul Gilbert - The Curse of Castle Dragon (2006)

This one just plain rocks, no other words for it. I could see this one getting people through dark days of doom. The awesomeness just dripps off my speakers when I'm playing it.

Re: Why isn't Paul Gilbert more famous?
Why isnt he more famous. Well the answer is easy. He does not produce pop music or even popular rock music. The bands he were in did not make it big time, and he emerged too late from an era of the guitar crazed 1980s which ended when Nirvana came along and hit the reset switch.

Gilbert is a guitarist's guitarist. He satisfies crowds of wannabe up and coming young guitarists, with his memorizing fast shredding.

Im not saying he hasnt tried to make more mainstream music with his guitar playing, but he has never made the successful record deal and contract with a big time rock band.

eh well.

While his skills are ample, his songwriting is just not up to par. That simple. He's destined to go the way of Tony MacAlpine.

If you want mad skills and songwriting in an underappreciated shredder, check out Greg Howe.

Glad to see there's others that still listen to this stuff!

Peace
