Dexter Series Finale, WTF!!! (Spoiler Alert)
I really don't know how I feel about this. I keep thinking about how I really wanted it to end.

What the hell, writers?

Is this for real?

And how the heck do you survive driving your boat into a hurricane. Boat's in splinters but somehow you can just merrily swim back to shore?

It's insane.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuu

8 seasons FOR THAT?!?!??

As for Debs... WTF
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able, and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?

Clyde Phillips revealed his intended finale.

[link to www.eonline.com]
"In the very last scene of the series," Philips explained, "Dexter wakes up. And everybody is going to think, 'Oh, it was a dream.' And then the camera pulls back and back and back and then we realize, 'No, it's not a dream.' Dexter's opening his eyes and he's on the execution table at the Florida Penitentiary. They're just starting to administer the drugs and he looks out through the window to the observation gallery.

"And in the gallery are all the people that Dexter killed—including the Trinity Killer and the Ice Truck Killer (his brother Rudy), LaGuerta who he was responsible killing, Doakes who he's arguably responsible for, Rita, who he's arguably responsible for, Lila. All the big deaths, and also whoever the weekly episodic kills were. They are all there.

"That's what I envisioned for the ending of Dexter. That everything we've seen over the past eight seasons has happened in the several seconds from the time they start Dexter's execution to the time they finish the execution and he dies. Literally, his life flashed before his eyes as he was about to die. I think it would have been a great, epic, very satisfying conclusion."

The only rational explanation for that ending was that the writers and producers were pissed at critics and were out to snub them.

And predictable. And everyone would have complained just as much.

I thought the ending was appropriate. Very, very sad, and I cried my eyes out over Deb and Dex, but appropriate. I actually thought it was a very good ending.

Since everyone who he's ever cared about gets screwed up (or dead) because of him (starting with Harry), he's decided to exile himself into his former living hell of a life. He's gone back to his original self and will no longer try (pretend?) to fit into "normal" life. And without Deb, he can no longer envision a normal life. As soon as he found out Deb was shot, you could see in his face and eyes the change that was taking place within him.

Everyone figured he'd either be caught or die. No one thought "hmmm, I know what will happen in the finale - Dex becomes a lumberjack."

I sort of think this is a setup for a spinoff. I sure hope so. I already miss Dex. Even during the past four years of a much lessor quality show I still enjoyed it, and loved the characters of Dex and Deb.

I was sad for Harrison, though. And upset that he was going to be living with a serial killer. But, after all, he has always lived with a serial killer.

This season wasnt even supposed to exist, it was all supposed to be wrapped up by last year, but they wanted to milk another season. SO they added a bunch of garage to stretch one season into two. That's why its even more depressing, that with all that time, the finale was so blah.

So what happened? He quit his job and become a burly lumberjack?

welp... em
 Quoting: Incel

He took Deb off of life support from the hospital and snuck her out to where he had his boat waiting. He then took her body out to sea and dumped her.

He then turns his boat directly into the hurricane and the scene fades out.

Next time we see him, he's unloading a log truck. Next we see him (bearded and somewhat older looking) retiring to his humble cabin and looking doomily into the camera as he plops himself down at his little kitchen table.

Re: Dexter Series Finale, WTF!!! (Spoiler Alert)
Meh. The show has been up and down since the Trinity season...should have gone out on that high note. The Lumen season was crap. This last season was pretty good....until the last few episodes, when they basically reniged on the entire point, that he wanted to protect, and then avenge, Vogel. At the last second, he decides he doesn't care, and sets up the oh so lame "Deb gets shot" plot convenience. It was just bad writing...Dexter would have killed that guy regardless if he felt like leaving. Vogel was his surrogate mother and they totally destroyed the season with that one lame plot move.

I could have handled the lumberjack thing if they had showed him get up from the table while the beginning music played, and we see him shave and get dressed, then buy a ticket online under a fake name to Argentina...then we see him walk out with a bag and shut the door.

It just left nothing resolved....like the Sopranos. It is not brilliant to leave characters that you get to know each week unresolved...it is freaking lazy. Kill the guy, put him in jail...don't leave him seperated from his love and his son just to be artistic. We are suddenly supposed to believe that he turns his back on his one chance at happiness, and his SON, because his sister died?

No. The end didn't fit with the rest of the series. It was contrived, poorly written and lame, IMO.

The series finale made me cry as well.

I don't understand his NEED to put Deb in the water. I understand his need as her 'big brother' to not leave her as she is, and, I understand wanting to remove her from the hospital.

I don't get the significance of placing her in the water- since that is what he did with all of the people that he killed (unless it was supposed to symbolize his feelings of responsibility for her death)?

Any ideas?

And, I hate to think that he wouldn't be there for his son. Just leaving them like that- awful.
