Im not so sure they are very upgradable anymore the custom cases kind of went by the way side unless you order one specifically that you can upgrade or build your own. which is probably a good idea. if you think you can upgrade it, then you can build it. laptops are cheap enough, you can buy one on ebay. But they don't seem to last long.i kill at least one every year or two. |

What is better? Notebook is mobile, but a computer can get upgraded. A laptop is more expansive while a better computer costs half the price of a weaker notebook. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47427254 A desk top baby!! The laptops are going extinct FACT! Plus like you said you can upgrade, it is stationary(less chance of breaking being dropped, lost or stolen) Plus if you need the mobility buy a cheap one at Xmas time |

So I always use it for the majority of Computing tasks. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15740069 Unless iam mobile, then I use a Tablet. i actually use tablets more than anything... Todays tablets are as strong as a PC I had 3 years ago. But my Gaming Desktop is still stronger then the current tablets. |

It will do everything you want to do with a computer and is mobile. You don't need the latest greatest tech, that's is all rather silly. The only problem with buying an older unit is how was is taken care of and replacement parts. Many of the keyboards are very dirty. If handy, then you can easily just clean it with air that you buy in a can, or if very handy can disassemble any sticking keys. The most likely failure in an old laptop is the battery. They are expensive. The charging units can fair from overheating which is mostly caused by constantly charging the battery when not necessary. If anything, the newer operating systems are even more prone to privacy issues. I can't believe all of the people wasting their money on shiny toys. A newer computer that has the prettiest screen is rarely needed. Having a computer that works without a cord and power is very helpful for things like watching a youtube video to disassemble something in the garage, or making a meal in the kitchen, or relaxing in the garden and getting some sun and checking on emails. One can buy a lot cheaper desktop though. Even then, why in the world do you need the latest ones? It is certainly true that you could have expensive motherboard issues. So far, and I've had computers for decades, I've had very few computer issues with broken parts. I once had a very stable Windows NT computer that would do practically anything and was venerable and completely free of hardware/software issues because I did all of the patching of the software. Frankly I wish I still had that but I gave it away. |
