More questions than answers! User ID: 47346044 United Kingdom 09/26/2013 12:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Unlikely for several reasons! First off, it passes Mars at a distance of around 7 Million Miles, so if its core IS only 3 miles diameter as claimed by NASA it's very unlikely to have any effect at that distance whatsoever! However, because of its coma extending out as far as 70,000Km I would expect some electrical interaction, but even this may be only slight! But you never know! This type of encounter is the same thing we do with space probes to adjust their orbits. It is, to me, sad how fast people forget the FOUNDATIONS of our fine country! This country was built by an armed population capable of fending for themselves, and will be lost by couches full of potato-sheeple riding their 52" HD-LEDTV's into the orwellian sunset. :( :abomb::abomb::abomb: BRING ON THE DOOM!!! |

Hydra User ID: 47432278 Germany 09/26/2013 03:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ISON will encounter Mars near directly over the north pole on Oct 1st. NASA's JPL, and indeed all orbital diagrams relied upon ]do not factor planetary encounter circumstances! And since ISON will be so close to Mars, there is sure to be orbital change, due to the gravitational effects of both bodies! The possible end result is that Mars will (gravitationally) fling ISON towards Earth! Quoting: Kalki 12772450 The distance of ISON to Mars is known since the very first orbit calculations. Do you really think, astronomers are so stupid that they didn't take the approach to mars into account when they calculated the orbit? . :ase26122019: Annular Solar Eclipse - December 26, 2019 - Kannur, Kerala, India |

NASA's JPL, and indeed all orbital diagrams relied upon do not factor planetary encounter circumstances! Quoting: Kalki 12772450 Wrong. The java applet intended for quick preview purposes on the JPL site does not factor planetary encounters, it's just a 2 body simulation, but that does not mean "ALL orbital diagrams relied upon" fail to account for it. Just because the typical youtube ISON doomer doesn't know how to use anything more advanced than the java applet does not mean that no one else does. Indeed, JPL's HORIZONS system factors it in as do a number of programs that amateurs can run on their own computers. FindOrb and ORSA being two of my personal favorites.
