Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, isn't holding back. On the Senate floor before 10 a.m. Friday, the senator gave a speech describing how American politics have reached the level at which "a small group of willful men and women who have a certain ideology"—read: the tea party and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas—have been able to take over the congressional budget debate in the last week. "Since they can't get their way," Harkin said, "they're going to create this confusion and discourse and hope that the public will be so mixed up in who is to blame for this, that they'll blame both sides." This isn't just congressional business as usual, Harkin said. It's much, much more dire: It's dangerous. It's very dangerous. I believe, Mr. President, we are at one of the most dangerous points in our history right now. Every bit as dangerous as the break-up of the Union before the Civil War. -+-+-+ Looks like it really is about to go down. I never thought I would see this in my lifetime. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH civil war?? is this senator objecting to the pay cut he will take when the pig in DC shuts down....frankly i don't feel sorry for him.....bring on the shutdown...we americans will be just fine; the military will still be compensated....the extortion in D.C. needs to END mr. senator Unfortunately, it will not be shut down. It would be beneficial for the working class if it would shut down and idiots like him would never let that happen. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 968649 this country is finished Dude, it's all a game to get you to take sides... all the politicians are bought and paid for. The political stage is exactly that - a stage upon which a well choreographed dance occurs to give us the illusion of choice, thus effectively denying us the reality of liberty. STOP BUYING IN... I do not buy this. This is no excuse to not try. I think the tea party is a step in the right direction (pun¡) seriously, how the F do we change things for the better, and I'm not talking about omabot zombie welfare change. Quoting: *Evan Revolutions are usually the result of at least some degree of civil war. Like you said though, with each side hating the other so much right now open conflict could devolve very very quickly into a replay of the mid 1800's. I would like to think that the first steps would remain peaceful as they did back then when the Southern states seceeded peacefully. I just hope the two sides don't have dumbassed blood thirsty idiots in charge when it happens. oh wait... "God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |

A majority of men, 51 percent, are in favor of repeal. But 55 percent of women say the law should remain in place. A narrow majority of whites, 51 percent, favor repeal while 62 percent of nonwhites would rather the law stay in place. [link to www.nationaljournal.com] Ah yes, another poll.
