How many times in the past year or 2 have we heard talk of a government shutdown? 3? 4? More? They're just teasing us. They're not going to (intentionally) cut off their own funding source.

I wouldn't bet on it.

This one is gonna be tough.

Republicans are asking for almost nothing...a one year delay. It is pretty popular. There isn't much to negotiate about. Their base will kill them if they cave.

Democrat leaders have drawn a "red-line". They are fighting against a one-year delay in a program that many of their rank and file think will be a disaster for them. For many of them a one-year delay would be welcomed.

But for the leaders, backing down is another failed "red-line" loss for a weak Obama and their far lefties will hate them.

This one could be the real deal.

Republicans never do the smart thing...but it looks like they stumbled onto an acorn.

Choice:
1) Delay a rickety Obamacare one year and avoid the shutdown
2) Insist on implementing a rickety Obamacare right now and get a shutdown

Will Democrats shut down the government and send all of their voters home on furlough just to hurry up and implement an Obamacare that isn't even really ready yet?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47004195

OR, force Obamacare to go through, let a lot of people in those Republican districts get health care subsidies, and then how will they be voting next time around?

It has been an interesting strategy the GOP played with Obamacare. If it was really 1/2 as bad as they make it out to be, then they would just let it go through, and then the public would hate it, and they would be Heros for removing it.

Instead, they won't even let people try it. Why is that? Is that they have the most to lose if their voters actually LIKE Obamacare?

The Red states have the highest numbers of uninsured voters and also will receive the highest subsidies under Obamacare, which means that a lot of GOP voters will be getting free health care from the govt.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20901

We are starting a $1.3 trillion entitlement during a debt crisis when the Fed is printing money hand over fist to keep interest rates down because if they go back to their historical average then interest payments will eat up nearly ALL of our revenue.

They believe that this is going to end up bankrupting the country.

Why would you "give it a try" if you think it is going to bankrupt you?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47004195

People are overwhelmingly in denial about how BROKE the US is.
A flag flown upside down is a symbol of a country in distress. As a result of the many traitors and enemies inside our own government and the many unconstitutional acts, legislation and atrocities passed and/or committed against our lives, liberty and property, as well as a reckless foreign policy meant to enrich and empower an already wealthy group of 'elites' while wreaking havoc around the globe and committing atrocities against large numbers of innocent peoples in the name of 'spreading democracy', the United States is no longer a free country and the lives of its citizens as well as the lives of our brothers and sisters around the globe, are in dire danger and distress.

Yeah...I actually think at the last minute, a "rabbit will be pulled out of a hat" and some sort of agreement will be made to avert a shutdown.

That being said, I think a shutdown would likely be a good thing. And, I say that knowing that it puts my paycheck in jeopardy. I am a contractor with the federal government and have been for almost 11 years.

In the 11 years I have been doing fed contracting, I have seen a TON of dead weight among the FTEs (Federally Tenured Employees). There are people in my division at work that are FTEs and I have absolutely no fucking idea what they do. They come to work, sit in their offices, presumably doing something, but I never see anything tangible from whatever it is they do.

I go to work, work my ass off, and produce tangible results. I keep being told that converting me to FTE status is "in the works", but it never seems to take place. At this point, it is really fine, because I don't really want to be part of this fucking machine any more deeply anyway.

All of you, listen...

I work as a contractor for a DHS component. I've been through the last shutdown during the Clinton - Newt political war.

This one is different. This one is for the blood and pulse of the nation (Republican side) and survival of a 100-year goal achieved (socialized medicine).

I don't care what side your on and you don't care what side I'm on. But multiple O-6 called a surprise all-hands meeting this past week telling everyone to seek new employment and prep all your unemployment papers now.

This may go to a shooting civil war when the armed forces stop getting paid, no social security checks go out, all food programs the govt hooked the 40oz malt liquer 47% on go dry.

You wait. This could go all the way to munitions expenditure. Been in the FedGov since '71 in various capacities. This is going to finally be the big one.

Let's see, had the Federal Reserve purchased 32% of long term bonds, had the Federal Reserve bought up billions of dollars of almost worthless mortgage backed securities and had the Federal government dipped into the Federal pension fund for hundreds of billions of dollars because the national debt limit had not been raised for over 4-months during these previous government shutdowns??? I think not

I did not read all through the thread, so forgive me if someone already said this: It would be to the DEMOCRAT'S advantage for this delay to go through and will benefit them for the midterms in 2014. The delay will postpone the huge sticker shock that will anger voters, plus it will give the administration more time to get ready the exchanges and tie up more loose ends. The Repubs. are absolutely crazy to propose a delay because it will in no way benefit them! For this reason, I believe the fix is already in and that Boehner, Reid, and Obama have already agreed to this delay. I would bet money that this is the case. We are being played once again. I cannot believe the Republicans are being so stupid!

Why not NO PAY for all of Congress and Senate for the next Government Shut down and see how fast those A@#$oles work then.
But did you know the last shut down they still got their pay and the rest of government employees and welfare and social security people did not.
They could save Millions by not paying them for not doing their jobs
