The pressure in the center of that storm is 973 mbs or about 28.72″! That is the strength of many hurricanes of category 1-2 intensity. Here is a closer up view of the storm.

The first powerful winterlike storm of the season will take aim on the Pacific Northwest into Monday with potentially disastrous flooding, damaging winds and dangerous seas.
The storm will grow into a monster over the Gulf of Alaska, where it will stall. Winds of 40 to 60 mph will roar over the ocean raising 15- to 30-foot seas.

They are focusing on the North West... but this system is going to march Eastward as the week progresses... Looks like we may be facing a MAJOR Severe weather outbreak thur-friday range.

Updated...

The pressure of that storm is 973 mbs or about 28.73″…to my knowledge there hasn’t been one hurricane/tropical system this year in the Atlantic basin that has had a pressure that low. Humberto was the closest at about 29.00″…so this storm is impressive…but it’s also in a breeding ground of typically big storms in the fall/winter season.

SUMMARY...ONGOING EVOLUTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT INVOF THE MID MO
VALLEY CONTINUES TO SUGGEST SLOWLY INCREASING SEVERE RISK. WW
ISSUANCE WILL LIKELY BE REQUIRED IN THE NEXT 1-2 HOURS AS SEVERE
POTENTIAL -- INCLUDING THE RISK FOR A FEW TORNADOES -- EVOLVES.

DISCUSSION...RECENT WATER VAPOR IMAGERY INDICATES A WELL DEFINED DRY
CHANNEL SUCCEEDING A POTENT MID/UPPER PV MAXIMUM EMERGING OVER THE

ALREADY...MOSAIC RADAR IMAGERY SUGGESTS WIDESPREAD BANDED
PRECIPITATION STRUCTURES ACROSS THE DISCUSSION AREA...WITH SFC
OBSERVATIONS SUGGESTING MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW OCCURRING. STRONG
ADIABATIC COOLING WITHIN THE FORCED ASCENT REGIME WILL REINFORCE
THERMAL PROFILES SUPPORTING SNOW AS THE PREDOMINANT PRECIPITATION

AFTERNOON WITH RATES OF 1-2 IN/HR ANTICIPATED...LOCALLY AIDED BY

BLACK HILLS/ AND /2/ CONVECTIVE ENHANCEMENTS WITH MARGINAL ELEVATED

FORECAST SOUNDINGS SUGGEST DEEP SATURATED PROFILES COINCIDING WITH
DENDRITIC GROWTH ZONES OVER 2000 FT DEEP WITH CENTROIDS ALIGNING
WITH STRONG ASCENT BETWEEN THE 600- AND 500-MB LEVELS ACROSS THE
AREA. THESE FACTORS SHOULD SUPPORT HEAVY SNOW CONTINUING INTO THE
EVENING HOURS.

I don't recall BLIZZARDS occurring in the first week of October in the past, very rare and unusual to say the least.
