Anonymous Coward User ID: 42067627 United States 09/30/2013 03:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Specific program impacts of a lapse in funding are provided below. These impacts assume that the lapse is of short duration (i.e., less than one month). Should the funding lapse be longer, the FNCS contingency plan and these associated impacts will be re-visited and updated: • The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will continue operations and eligible households will still receive monthly benefits for October. The authority to make October benefit payments comes from the Recovery Act, through which Congress provided “such sums as are necessary” to finance the SNAP benefit provided for in the Recovery Act. In addition, about $2 billion in contingency funding will be available and could be used to support State Administrative activities essential to continue the program and issue and process benefits. These contingency funds were provided in the FY 2013 appropriation and do not expire until the end of FY 2014. [link to www.usda.gov] |

Obviously its an abused system. However unfortunate that may be, there are people that do truly depend on government assistance to survive. I am not one of them but I know many so in a way it effects some us who don't depend on it. |

Will probably know more tomorrow or Monday and will update further. Quoting: Ddraig Sorry to be cryptic but I can't say anything more at the moment, but Iwork for an agency that handles ebt cards. No way I could have any sympathy for these parasites. It would be one thing if these people were nice and appreciated the help from the tax payers but every one of them I've seen in the super markets are rude, obnoxious and look at working people like they hate you. They make me sick. If they had any decency they would quit giving credit to the Government for the freebies and thank the tax payers. I have not seen them ever take out an ad in the newspaper thanking the tax payer for their handouts. The hell with them...let the bastards starve for all I care. I suppose they are just too stupid to understand that this free ride cannot go on forever before they destroy the host. They will be the first ones out of here if TSHTF and they haven't even figured that out either. Everyone hates them and their attitudes just makes it 10 times as bad. They will reap what they have sown and have no one other than themselves to blame for the hostility vented toward them. . . I rode by a few of these poorasites hanging outside a handout hole of some sort. A friend of mine had his phone swiped at the bar next door when he made a delivery. I had just completed a 47-mile bike ride and then an Oktoberfest with the other riders. A fun crowd of happy, energetic people, loving life. The poorasites glared at me, probably wanted to steal my bike and sell it for meth. The nasty stares the entitlement gang gives are reason enough to hate them. |

With over 42% of the U.S families depended on them to eat each day, this is definitely not good! If people will revolt for no other reason it will be due to hunger! That is what happened with Egypt!!! And if it doesn't happen from loosing food stamps now and not having anything to eat for a couple of weeks, then it will happen soon and will be do to lower world food production due to serve climate change. |

Social Security and Medicare benefits would continue to flow. Federal air traffic controllers would remain on the job and airport screeners would keep funneling passengers through security checkpoints. Federal inspectors would continue enforcing safety rules. The Food and Drug Administration would handle high-risk recalls suspend most routine safety inspections. Federal meat inspections would be expected to proceed as usual. School lunches and breakfasts would continue to be served, and food stamps, known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, would continue to be distributed. But several smaller feeding programs would not have the money to operate. etc etc etc [link to www.bostonglobe.com] |

I do not feel badly for welfare leeches however I do feel bad for the disabled, elderly and the children that might not have food. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47579511 With real money like they always do. EBT doesn't pay for that stuff. Dude, there was a report out about 6 months ago on the abuse of EBT cards and not only were they being used for liquor and cigarettes, they were using them at strip clubs. That is mostly when the EBT cards are used for temporary cash assistance, one can take whatever money they get out of any ATM. As far as the food stamp portion any shop keeper or business owner that is willing to give up their lively hood on welfare fraud is crazy, it does happen but not a whole lot. ..."The soul is dyed the color of its thoughts.
