I think the windstorm is working its' way up the valley - I've noticed a definite pick up in the windspeed, and the lights have flickered a couple of times. I have my oil lamp out and ready to light if we lose our power. I think I'm located (time-wise) about a half-hour following whatever YOU experience with this storm. But it seems to have died down today. Hopefully it will stay that way. I've gotta tell you, whenever there's a power outage part of me always wonders if it's going to be "the" blackout. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 45651901 United States 09/29/2013 10:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wind has increased considerably here in Portland. I think the storm front is scheduled to hit at 8:30pm... so a little less than an hour from now. The local news has stated that pockets of the city have lost power, but nothing serious. Largest pocket is inner north Portland with 5k without power. |

From now through the next ten years it is going to get progressively worse. IMO I see this trend more and more too,...we are constantly breaking all kinds of records. The seasons come late or early but Never gradual, always shitting hard weither its wind, rain or snow. These dams can bearly hold back the water long enough without spilling over. |

Sure was a wet last few days. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 45651901 Hard to believe that last week we had sunny weather in the 80's, huh? Back in the 60's a storm came in from the Pacific. It was called the Columbus Day Storm. Caused major power outages, flooding, landslides, downed thousands of trees which blocked roads. It blew so hard that it blew me off a porch I was standing on! I was 8 years old at the time. Never forget it! |

It is a trend that will bring devastating impact on the northern hemisphere, especially on livestock and agriculture, also with the violent weather comes damage and losses that altogether can destroy what is left of the economy. People just aren't ready to know yet... But they will in time. |

From now through the next ten years it is going to get progressively worse. IMO We are in inland NW, on the dry side and yesterday were talking about the late, short, cool Springs we have been experiencing, along with early, short, chilly Fall weather. The seasons have shifted or something. We have had almost no Fall here, where we used to have a long drawn out Indian Summer, leaves changed color, etc. Now it is chilly weather, windy, rainy. Looks like no Indian Summer here this year. We had a wind storm come through last night about 2:30 that shook things up a little bit, no damage, but really noisy, if you know what I mean. Anonymous Coward User ID: 39964162 United States 09/29/2013 11:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The calendar still says September. However, a November-like barrage of powerful storms is taking aim on the Pacific Northwest this weekend. Quoting: DanielPT Numerous cities already got socked on Saturday as an initial round of heavy rainfall and high winds pummeled Washington, Oregon, northern Idaho and northwest Montana. At least three cities broke all-time September calendar-day rainfall records on Saturday: Seattle-Tacoma Airport: 1.71 inches (previous record 1.65 inches set Sept. 22, 1978 and Sept. 30, 1953) Olympia, Wash. Airport: 2.93 inches (previous record 1.67 inches set Sept. 17, 2010) Astoria, Ore.: 3.16 inches (previous record 2.67 inches set Sept. 16, 1997) Gusty winds produced numerous broken tree branches, downed power lines, and traffic control lights throughout the downtown Portland area on Saturday night. Over 25,000 customers were without power Saturday evening, according to PGE. Sustained winds of 50 to 60 mph have been reported throughout the region, and 70 to 75 mph gusts have been observed in Garibaldi, Ore. samanthasunflower User ID: 37056712 United States 09/29/2013 11:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The winds are giving me lots of extra work. Nothing like seeing the top of the tree, going through the green house. Now I have to saw up and remove all the limbs, and then repair the green house. Not to mention what's on top of the house, here's hoping that nothing broke through. We aren't supposed to have a non pouring down rain day until Thursday, so expect some flooding when all the rain adds up. The hills are getting a lot more than the valleys. When the rain from the hills goes downhill, and hits the saturated soil in the valley, there will be flooding. |
