Since very few people will make it to heaven, I am curious what happens when people die?
Are they sent off summarily to hell without a trial to start eternal torment? or are they kept in a state of rest until Jesus comes back?
I am not clear what the Christian faith teaches on this subject.

some people believe that upon death there is an immediate judgement and immediate sentence.

others believe that the sentence has already been pre-determined and either the angels or the demons already make their way towards the moribund person to escort them to their destination?

others believe that the dead will be kept totally unconscious (even the cremated ones) until Jesus return, and then all their molecules will miraculously be put back together so the person can attend the judgement?

what does the bible think of this very important subject?
