if you have a shutdown official NASA website due to govt shutdown, and a private site with NASA logo with something exceptional, a comet Ison flyby etc, then you might think someone has arranged all that to happen in first place. I wouldn't be surprised if indeed after less than 48 hours that mini site tells a big news, in the absence of the mega site to denounce it. Everything is fixed. The question is what is so big as discovery, how it affect our lives. Don't think it is microbial life on Mars, not again. Don't be fast to dismiss what is said semi-official and to expect the official announcement. In "2012" the official presidential announcement came only after the rescue ships were already filled in with practically no chance of survival. I dont say it will be so in reality. But keep vigilant. Also other space institutes around the world who are not worse in tracking comets. Not only the EU but also Russia and others have pretty powerful observatories.

The moving the date from November 13 to oct 6 could mean someone over there want to use the shutdown of NASA and to announce what is really going on! I don't have to speculate anymore. 14h are not that much.
