Passport help
So I'm supposed to leave Wednesday to visit my girlfriend in Canada for two weeks and it's urgent that I see her. I come home today and my passport is destroyed by my dog. I have no cash, I'm 19 and I leave for the usmc in 22 days.

Re: Passport help
HOW destroyed is destroyed?

Is the number and photo in tact- just tooth marks or is it in pieces?

You're fucked. The problem is the process and if the thing is destroyed they probably wont let you pass. I think you can use a drivers license only if you're going by car or bus. If its a plane youll need that passport.

Re: Passport help
If you have no cash, it doesn't matter that the Fed gov't is shut down. Passport replacements are $50(?) and takes weeks.

How you gonna afford gas or a plane ticket to see her anyway?

Sounds like she needs to come down to see you instead.

The passport looks like it's been shredded. I don't know how my dog even got it because it was hidden in my suitcase in the living room. It just sucks :/ we are doing the long distance thing and I've only seen her three times this year this would've been the fourth and last until January.

I would be staying at her place and I quit my job due to me leaving for the usmc a few weeks ago and the money I had was for the ticket, and i can't get a refund on it due to using Priceline

If you did, then you would know for Americans you need only a drivers license to cross the border via Bus and or car.

if by ground they can still get back via that license. Its only by plane does it apply. If your Canadian citizen on the other hand you require the passport period as they stopped letting us use our drivers license a while ago.

Americans use theirs all the time going both ways via Bus and car.

You're wrong

Entry into the United States: When traveling by air from Canada, U.S. citizens are required by U.S. law to present a U.S. passport book, except as noted in the few exceptions provided on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website.

For entry into the United States via land and sea borders, U.S. citizens must present either a U.S. passport, passport card, NEXUS card, Enhanced Drivers License, or other Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI)-compliant document. The only exception to this requirement is for U.S. citizens under the age of 16 (or under 19, if traveling with a school, religious, or other youth group) who need only present a birth certificate, Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or naturalization certificate.

So far from what im reading on another website that is not from the USA it states you can use the DL but its recommended you bring a passport but it states nothing about it being passport only. So long as you're going by ground only.

Not sure, but they may address just getting into Canada. But if he wants back in the USA, you need those docs in the link.

But, best would be to call the state dept and personally talk to someone who can help specifically.
It ain't worth chancing it.
