Re: Obama Says Social Security Checks Next To Go
from 2011 - this shouldnt be an issue...hes got a poker face on. call out the fuckin bluff.

What Happened to the $2.6 Trillion Social Security Trust Fund?

Here’s why: Social Security has a trust fund, and that trust fund is supposed to have $2.6 trillion in it, according to the Social Security trustees. If there are real assets in the trust fund, then Social Security can mail the checks, regardless of what Congress does about the debt limit.

President Obama’s budget director, Jack Lew, explained all this last February in USA Today:

“Social Security benefits are entirely self-financing. They are paid for with payroll taxes collected from workers and their employers throughout their careers. These taxes are placed in a trust fund dedicated to paying benefits owed to current and future beneficiaries. … Even though Social Security began collecting less in taxes than it paid in benefits in 2010, the trust fund will continue to accrue interest and grow until 2025, and will have adequate resources to pay full benefits for the next 26 years.”

Notice that Lew said nothing about raising the debt ceiling, which was already looming, and it shouldn’t matter anyway because Social Security is “entirely self-financing” and off budget. What could be clearer?

Re: Obama Says Social Security Checks Next To Go
My disabled next door neighbor lady is in her 70's. She was on her porch crying one day a few months back, because the meals on wheels program suffered some cuts and she no longer gets it. She's too weak to cook for herself all the time, (something wrong with her legs. I couldn't believe that they took her food away. So we became her "meals on wheels". We cook extra food and take it to her. My husband grills up stuff and always takes it to her.

This is what we have to do. We need to help each other out. I'm not preaching, nor do I want acknowledgement for what I do. We're just reaching a crisis point in our country and I think it's inhumane to let anyone go hungry.

Our elders deserve our time and respect.

And yes it pisses me off that they have been cutting back programs for the elderly. The senior citizens center cut back from 6 days a week to 4, now they are saying it might be 3 days that it's open. These people heavily rely on the company, and they need it as a place to go when they feel lonely.

Re: Obama Says Social Security Checks Next To Go
Early Thursday morning, Potomac Research Group analyst Greg Valliere predicted that if the debt-ceiling deadline grew closer, President Barack Obama would play his "trump card" in the debate. He would remind seniors that if Congress doesn't raise the debt ceiling, seniors wouldn't get their Social Security checks.

"GOP strategists like Karl Rove surely know that it's just a matter of time before President Obama throws a game-changer — warning senior citizens that their Social Security checks won't be mailed because of John Boehner," Valliere wrote in a note to clients.

A few hours later, Obama did just that during a speech at M. Luis Construction Company in Rockville, Md. He spent much of the speech warning that while the ongoing government shutdown was damaging, failure to raise the debt ceiling by an Oct. 17 deadline would be even worse.

"In a government shutdown, Social Security checks still go out on time. In an economic shutdown — if we don't raise the debt ceiling — they don't go out on time," Obama said. "In a government shutdown, disability benefits still arrive on time. In an economic shutdown, they don't."

Earlier on Thursday, the Treasury Department warned in a big report that breaching the debt ceiling could inflict economic calamity "more severe than any seen since the Great Depression."

"The United States has never defaulted on its obligations, and the U.S. dollar and Treasury securities are at the center of the international financial system," the report said.

"A default would be unprecedented and has the potential to be catastrophic: credit markets could freeze, the value of the dollar could plummet, U.S. interest rates could skyrocket, the negative spillovers could reverberate around the world, and there might be a financial crisis and recession that could echo the events of 2008 or worse."

The Treasury says that the debt ceiling needs to be raised by Oct. 17 to avoid potential default on some U.S. obligations. After that date, the Treasury would have only approximately $30 billion to meet all of its commitments. On some days, expenditures can go as high as $60 billion.

Obama says that he won't negotiate over raising the debt ceiling, calling it Congress' responsibility. House Republicans, meanwhile, have looked to extract some kind of concession out of Obama in exchange for a debt-ceiling hike.

Just remember - a military police state will be firmly built into place before they pull the rug on the last vestiges - those that actually trust and believe in their government.

I cannot even believe that people would even dare to think that their not going to raid social security or their 401k's when push comes to shove.

Why would people even trust their bank even a safety deposit box?

These banks and government are the same people that bought poverty to the world by excess DEBT. And you trust them with your wealth? You actually think they care to feed any of you, or to take care of any of you. Do you REALLY think that the Senators in the United States REALLY want to help anybody?

Is anyone conceivably awake enough to realize the real purpose of Social Security was to CONTROL YOU, IMPOVERISH YOU, and finally when it's cut off and your too weak to resist to ELIMINATE YOU.

Oh Obama's followers and those on Social Security are going to get to see Obama's true side soon enough - and when they do it will be military armed personnel with weapons drawn.

And they won't think twice to shoot rioters and looters. This day is coming to America, this day will come to the entire world.

I believe that there is a greater chance that the military will turn their weapons on Obama. Punishing the country because he can't get his way, like spoiled child throwing a temper trantrum, is grounds for immediate removal from office. It shows a very distinct emotional and mental breakdown caused by delusions of grandeur. In other words, the Napoleon complex, where he thinks he is GODs gift and has a right to destroy a country to suit his whims.

"government securities" [link to www.ssa.gov]

"Why do some people describe the "special issue" securities held by the trust funds as worthless IOUs? What is SSA's reaction to this criticism?

Money flowing into the trust funds is invested in U. S. Government securities. Because the government spends this borrowed cash, some people see the trust fund assets as an accumulation of securities that the government will be unable to make good on in the future. Without legislation to restore long-range solvency of the trust funds, redemption of long-term securities prior to maturity would be necessary.

Far from being "worthless IOUs," the investments held by the trust funds are backed by the full faith and credit of the U. S. Government. The government has always repaid Social Security, with interest. The special-issue securities are, therefore, just as safe as U.S. Savings Bonds or other financial instruments of the Federal government.

Many options are being considered to restore long-range trust fund solvency. These options are being considered now, well in advance of the year the funds are likely to be exhausted. It is thus likely that legislation will be enacted to restore long-term solvency, making it unlikely that the trust funds' securities will need to be redeemed on a large scale prior to maturity."

The Social Security "trust" money is already spent! Yes, your money you pay into it each and every paycheck.

First of all there are no Social Security "checks." It is all direct deposited or placed on a debit card. Second a huge percentage of those on SS never worked a day in their life but feel they are entitled to it. This includes women who never worked and those minors who lost a parent. Third it is not "your money". It is and always has been funded by those who are WORKING. Most people who have actually worked get back everything they put in within 4 years of when they start collecting. The system is an unsustainable Ponzi scheme that was funded mostly by the baby boomers but there are not enough people behind them making enough money to keep it going now.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 45039846

There lies the biggest problem.Get back what was paid in within four years but usually live long enough to draw it 15 plus years and most even much longer. If the worker dies early then the wife and kids draw for years. Its a no win scheme.

And then what?

Is he going to take candy and toys from children?

Medicine from the sick and elderly?

Is he going to close down all the parks and libraries and highways and blame it on John Bohner.... even thought he's he one that's gone on camera 5-6 times now saying he's refusing to negotiate.

What a shit stain of a human being this clown is!
It won't necessarily be the strongest who survive, nor the most intelligent.
It will be the one most capable of adapting to the rapidly changing environment.

These people heavily rely on the company, and they need it as a place to go when they feel lonely.

he can suck a nut

Q: Would seniors continue to get Social Security benefits?

Yes. Social Security is a mandatory spending program, and the people who send those checks would continue to work under a legal doctrine called "necessary implication.
