The furloughs -- which include FAA administrators, support staff, engineers who work on airport facilities and safety inspectors -- started Tuesday and effectively gut the agency’s ability to oversee critical aspects of the nation’s aviation system. U.S. government agencies were ordered to close for the first time in more than 17 years after lawmakers stalemated over Republican efforts to block President Obama's healthcare law. More than 800,000 federal workers were to spend Tuesday, the first day of the new fiscal year, on unpaid furloughs as agency managers executed contingency plans for the costly process of closing down operations indefinitely. The local inspectors are among 2,917 FAA safety inspectors that have been furloughed nationally during the shutdown. Here are two fatal airline crashes killing all persons on board that was blamed by the FAA on wrongful practices by the airlines responsible for the crash. What the FAA will traditionally forget to mention is that it was their fault to ensure these certainly-NOT-not-for-profit corporations wouldn't try one of these dirty tricks! This is the real crash that was caused by a real forklift raising a real jet engine onto a real DC-10 engine pod which was really against FAA Regulations which cause a REAL crash which REALLY killed all the REAL people on board... [link to www.google.com (secure)] The next one was another flub for the FAA Federales that cause real people to be eaten by real alligators before the bodies could be recovered by the real first responders who really had to protect themselves from alligators eating them as well as the real passengers who thought the FAA was doing their real real job of protecting passengers... Clearly you are listening/watching CNN or NPR or some other over-the-top-liberal-biased outlet. The Republicans report that they have invited the President to meet with them in order to negotiate amendments to Obamacare. The President's response: I will only meet with you to negotiate about Obamacare if you end the shutdown and promise to raise the debt ceiling FIRST. I think anyone knowledgeable about negotiation -- or indeed anyone over the age of about 9 years -- understands that if you give in to a person who says "I'll only negotiate if you give me what I want in advance" -- you're not going to be in a very strong position once negotiations begin. Some know that they are the only people qualified and in position to perform critical tasks essential to the safety of others. Does anyone want to fly in an airplane that has not been subject to routine maintenance and inspection? Many of those who work to keep aircraft flying safely now are working with only the hope of an eventual paycheck. As long as they can report to work and perform their jobs they will do so, because they know how critical their performance is to aviation itself as a human endeavor. Airmen and others in the aviation industries -- whether military, commercial, or general aviation -- have a unique heritage and culture. It is a high point of American achievement.
