Hi M1, I agree, unfortunately I think the larger one is coming sooner rather than later, the seismologist in the news continually emphasize that the 8,2 was not the Big one they are waiting for, and stated "it could come today or 50 years"


"This magnitude 8.2 is not the large earthquake that we were expecting in this area," said Mark Simons, a geophysicist at Caltech in Pasadena, California. "We're expecting a potentially even larger earthquake."

It could be tomorrow. Or it could be 50 years.

New Geomagnetic Storm Watch UPDATE
The latest WSA-Enlil Solar Wind Prediction model released by NOAA/SWPC has been updated to include a pair of coronal mass ejections (CMEs). The first event, a slower moving Earth directed CME from April 1st, and the second event, a faster moving eruption following the M6 eflare on April 2nd, are predicted to merge and arrive late on April 4th. The predicted impact could produce enhanced geomagnetic activity, possibly reaching minor storm levels. Sky watchers should remain alert beginning tomorrow evening

The magnitude 8.2 earthquake that erupted Tuesday off northern Chile produced a tsunami whose energy caused tiny fluctuations early Wednesday on a tide gauge in La Jolla, says the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Scripps seismologist Gabi Laske said that the tsunami added about two inches to the height of waves at the gauge at 5 a.m. Wednesday, just over 12 hours after the earthquake happened. "In La Jolla, the first "weird" wiggle arrived at about this time," Laske told U-T San Diego. "While we could debate whether San Diego had a tsunami, it was clearly measured at the Santa Monica tide gauge station. Arriving at about 5:30 a.m., the biggest wave came at 7:10 a.m. at 6.3 inches. While I wouldn't stick my head out for the San Diego/La Jolla data, the Santa Monica data are very clear. "The signal at the Santa Barbara station is very concerning. The first wave there also arrived at about 5:30 a.m., the first "big" wave (at 7 inches) at 6:45 a.m. But "big" waves were still recorded at 9:50 a.m. (at 7.5 inches). My guess is that waves bounced off the coast and then joined and added together later on. All these numbers are +/-, so peak-to-trough amplitude is twice that. "The tsunami arrived in Crescent City at about 7:00 a.m. PDT, though the biggest wave didn't come (at a little less than +/- 6.7 inches), until 8:40 a.m., with another group of waves reaching this height at 10:50 a.m. So, this is smaller than in Santa Barbara (which is interesting and disturbing)."

As open-air cafes spilled out onto the sidewalks and crowds huddled around televisions, an atmosphere of kinetic, purposeful calm prevailed.

Fortunately, the wave never came during the night of April 1st (a minor, sub-meter surge was measured late in the evening), but the vagaries of tsunami formation made it a narrow miss. Tsunamis form when land motions associated with earthquakes displace the ocean and generate a series of waves. The magnitude of an earthquake itself doesn’t necessarily tell the full story of displacement and wave geometry; minute differences can mean the difference between a gentle swell and a wall of roiling water.. . .

How Far Inland Would A 300 Foot Tsunami Go On The East Coast?
. . . So here’s the question… “IF” a 300 foot tsunami reached the East Coast, how far inland would it go?

The short answer, and one that many may think to be accurate, is that it will go inland until the elevation of the land is higher than the tsunami. While that sounds logical, there are variables…

Actually, the distance a tsunami will travel inland has more to do with the energy it still has left as it hits the shore.

A tsunami will speed across the ocean at hundreds of miles an hour but at a relatively small height (because the ocean is DEEP). Its speed decreases as it approaches the shoreline (because the ground beneath it is getting shallower) but its energy begins to transfer to its monstrous HEIGHT. When the speed of the wave approaches zero, the wave breaks, much of its energy is released and it will not go too much further. A tsunami that reaches a height of 300 feet when it rears up at the shore, will lose energy as it travels inland. . . .

"I have no idea if it means anything but I just noticed Station 44402 - SOUTHEAST BLOCK CANYON - 130 NM SE of Fire Island, NY is also in event mode. Storm related?"

Some thought the storm may have caused the buoy to Event, it was reported weeks later that New Jersey had been hit with a meteotsunami

These buoys don't usually go off for no reason, some type of adjustment, wave, magma, surge, energy etc. usually causes these to event. . . whether minor or major variations

I have never seen this sequence before, I am concerned that something major will occurr within 7 -10 days. . . if you followed Bending Lights posts he tracked buoy patterns but then those certain buoys were take offline, this may be a new pattern being established

Last time the Two Tasman SEA buoys went off was 3-21 and
10 days after the event or 7 days after theys stopped eventing the 8.0 Chille eq occurred (the bouys in Alaska did not event during that time)
