So the conversation of succession is still on going and could be serious.

Barry Smitherman, Texas’ Railroad Commissioner and candidate for Attorney General said, “Generally speaking, we have made great progress in becoming an independent nation, an ‘island nation’ if you will, and I think we want to continue down that path so that if the rest of the country falls apart, Texas can operate as a stand-alone entity with energy, food, water and roads as if we were a closed-loop system.”

In the interview, Smitherman noted that Texas “has been very strong leading in the charge against the Obama administration” and that Texas is advantaged to secede because it’s “uniquely situated because we have energy resources…and our own independent electrical grid.”

While many Texans are viewing this preparation as controversial, Americans are saying that Texas secession would radically shake up the American political landscape.
