Ranchers whose herd has grown too big, or cannot be controlled effectively will slaughter a portion of the herd to get an easier way to manage the ones that remain.

They will first get rid of the old and sick. Then they will get rid of the dumb and useless ones, or the ones that will cost them too much. The ones they leave behind will be healthy, young, bright, and able to reproduce and produce good offspring. They will also have their favourites (even if they have bad traits) be exempt from the slaughter because they like them as pets.
