"Unfortunately, NPS says it will not (not can't) accept third party or private funds to help open any closed park at this time. Even when we have asked what is the difference between now and 1995, we are told "no." We have worked through our congressional delegation who have also asked, at our request, the president, Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewel and Director of the National Park Service Jon Jarvis why the precedent of 1995 cannot be applied and allow donated funds to be used in this situation. To date we have received no clear answer, other than all parks or no parks open. We are sadly disappointed that national politics are more important than the impact on people's lives. We understand that there are other extremely important impacts on other health, safety and education programs around the nation and we feel for all of them. Yet our community has stepped up to relieve the financial burden to partially meet our needs and the president and congressional leaders say "no," so they can make a point. "
