Socialized healthcare can be done very well with much less waste and better services than our current system. The problem is that it is entirely impossible to pull off in the US because our economy and political system are not compatible with such a thing.

A system with revolving door for leadership and pluralism cannot do a single payer system effectively, since the politicians cannot be held accountable (only 'voted out' and replaced with more of the same). The best way to do it would be with a monarchy or fascism. Those systems work too well, though, so the current order viciously propagandizes against them.
