Internet Culture is a Sickness
I've spent a big part of my life here, and I've come to find out that, for the most part, it's nowhere. There is nothing of true value here. These electroonic messages. Bypass surgery...

It's just an excuse to avoid human interaction. We figured out how to avoid each other! Nicely done. But it's true.

Breaking away (for about 4 years now), I have a clearer perspective. The way cyber world inhabits our minds so pervasively, it is catostrophically frightening.

Everyone connects through electronic means these days, and it in most ways, is not so subtle.

I feel our souls are being stolen and/or compromised. I believe that because time is of the essence, time used communicating with one another electronically, is time wasted... What real purpose does this time you're using have? Does it feel more real to type or click a thing than to hug someone or shake their hand? We relay reality now. So much is no longer direct. It's a new disease.

If I cowered or relented, I might say: my obedient side says that we've progressed to an extent that it seems there's no turning back.
"Oh." He says, "We're already here, might as well keep going. Can't be helped. Oh well."

Fuck that bull shit!

Good job managing that time of yours. Afterall, we'll all die one day, be it through natural, or otherwise unpredictable causes. Is this worth your time?

True human interaction is but a hurdle for your next facebook comment. Life isn't this! This babble of mine that you're reading on you're stupid monitor might be more than what you believe you percieve.

If you've read this far, you're thinking! Think a little more!

Take a moment. Let it sink into you. The "connected" populace is becoming more introverted. By definition, that's not necessarily bad, but it's a sign of disconnection. It's because of our internet addiction. The entire human culture of the developed world (mind you, the people of the world who actually have some power to make a difference, if so decided)is magnetized to a to a rectangle with lots of bright pixels. Smartphone, tablet, notebook, PC. It's all the same. Pick your poison. It's necessary now. You can't function in the world without it anymore.
Welcome.

What to do?

Oh how I rant. Fuck you technology. I love and hate you. There are so many magnificent and beautiful things about you, but sadly, oh so sorrowfully, your true potential has been sabotaged by idiocy and selfishness. Unquestioning droves of folks flock with flailing stupidity towards your flashy advertisements. There's so much more, but nobody looks.

Shit on my face and tell me it's raining gold! Oh the gold flakes don't taste like diarrhea! Not at all!

It scares me how glued-in everyone is to this "tube". It's a blackhole of comedy, hate, and scorn. Electric world is the new new subconscious.

Human evolution is in jeopardy. The course we are steered towards has no redeeming benefits.

oh the irony
"The world will soon wake up to the reality that everyone is broke and can collect nothing from the bankrupt, who are owed unlimited amounts by the insolvent, who are attempting to make late payments on a bank holiday in the wrong country, with an unacceptable currency, against defaulted collateral, of which nobody is sure who holds title."

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

The woman who is not pursued sets up the doctrine that pursuit is offensive to her sex, and wants to make it a felony. No genuinely attractive woman has any such desire. - H.L. Mencken, In Defense Of Women

The magical shortcut of communication between peers electronically, on some raw level, may be appreciative. But! There's no responsibility.

I agree with a lot of what you said, 5 stars!

The Internet gives me a chance to be sociable. I've met one GLPer in my life and that person totally insane, I'm talking a real lunatic.

Since I don't have the desire to have relationships with the ordinary lost boring people around me, I have a chance at some interesting, meaningful communication with SOMEONE through the Internet.

I'd have no such opportunities without the Internet I think.

However, it's a force of destruction overall as you posted.

It's weird because I've gradually strayed away from this sheeeite..... I don't even know why I'm here now. I guess I'm reaching out to those who might feel stuck. Maybe a spark will ignite a thought. As I'm creeping and slying away from this world, conversely, everyone around me is digging deeper and becoming more accustomed to it. So this shit of mine that you're reading is sort of an impulsive ricochet. I'm feeling backlash====ish... I hope more will see.

Well, why go a little further and get a phone number, contact info and meet them in person? If you think you've felt something more through typing than verbal communication, take a leap! Sorry if that's too assuming or harsh, but hey...

If something like that happened on the regular, this chaos might be half worth it.

Acctually manny years ago i kinda hoped i someday would meet people like myself on the net and kinda hang out with them for real, but it never happend because my kind has been made clinically insane, by some corporate demon entity that has a job making people stay separated, countless of lives has been lost in this great internet battle, just so a few can feel safe, all the lab dogs that will burn its just a waste.
Absolution is the only way for communication to improve.

Re: Internet Culture is a Sickness
A final touch. If I may.. due or not, this shall be put forth. Of my own fortitude, I beseech that you, Yeah you haha, focus on what you're really thinking about, in EVERY single moment of your life. What are you doing? What are you doing right now?!?!?! Are you aware of the rate at which time passes by? Where are you going? Where is the world going accordinging to you, and vice versa? What strikes you? What inhabits your thoughts?! Are you moving with the flow?? What hits you and moves you? What makes you feel good,... or bad? Being a human myself, I know there are no sign posts or guidelines telling me where to go.. So, I just feel it out. Right or wrong, I learn. Delve, dive deep. Take a plunge! Risk is just a word. What is IS.

Re: Internet Culture is a Sickness
The Internet is probably the first and the last true- free-speech medium on this planet. This cannot be underestimated.

Technology is a double-edged sword. At the end of the day it doesn't really help anybody. I see people creating more problems in their lives through technology than actually solving. But at the same time technology allows a developing mind to go up levels with unprecedented quickness. Our generation is learning things at a rate so fast that we are becoming geniuses compared to our fathers. If just we weren't so alienated, we could really turn this world around.

I agree that the 'culture' that has formed around the Internet is alienating people from reality.

A healthy-minded individual should use the Internet as a very powerful tool and nothing more. But people are getting more and more emotionally attached to it. They cannot live without it.

Sometimes you got to lose yourself in order to rediscover yourself and be a stronger person. The Internet allowed me to rediscover the value of real life. I now understand the value of physically interacting with people and nature. For me the Internet was and is a necessary evil, that is, something that can be very destructive but also very enlightening, like cannabis or sex.

All of us here are probably addicted to the internet.
Try not using it - even for a day and see if you can.

OP - do you have any tips on stopping internet addiction?

Imagine how many hours each of us have spent on the internet.
Great thread OP.
