Why section 60?

A coin left on a headstone or at the grave site is meant as a message to the deceased soldier's family that someone else has visited the grave to pay respect. Leaving a penny at the grave means simply that you visited. A nickel indicates that you and the deceased trained at boot camp together, while a dime means you served with him in some capacity. By leaving a quarter at the grave, you are telling the family that you were with the solider when he was killed.

Yep, this is nothing new. I think you can leave flowers, but they have to be fake. This has always been the policy at military cemeteries.

Thinking that revolutions will be fought by lawyers is hazardous to your health.

I worked in a military cemetery about 14 years ago. Everyday I worked I had to remove items from the graves because it wasn't allowed. We had to put them in a shed where things were thrown away once a week. It is cruel but it wasn't allowed then either.

I can't stand Obama as much as the next guy but this isn't anything new.

The national cemetaries are supposed to be a uniformed area for deepest respect of those laid to rest there.

What happens when shit is left all over the place and it looks like a freakin mexican cemetary?

Acutely it was allowed and the government even encouraged documentaries on area 60 done by far left groups when the media was still running the daily death count.

Section 60 had their own set of rules in place for what was allowed and not allowed for the last decade, everyone knew the rules. The cemetery was a living memorial to a war still being fought; the cemetery was stripped in short at the start of the government shutdown.

If they would have warned the families and said "take your stuff" the families would have done it in a heartbeat out of respect.

One mother who visited her son nearly every single day had a glass heart on her son’s grave since 2005; it was tossed out in the middle of the night on October first just hours in to the shutdown.





There is no memorial for these guys in DC, federal policy says a war must have been over for 10 years before they will even consider a memorial. Even if there was a memorial it would have been shut down like the others.

This is part of make it hurt



The cemetery had announced they were going to keep the area more tidy three months ago and had done so. But on the day of the shutdown they went in in the middle of the night and tossed everything.

The cemetery also admits they never changed the official policy and have no new official policy in place and may go back to allowing items soon.

Cemetery also meet with the families on October first after the clean out.
