Stray cat issue getting out of control!!!

Have you tried to get them spayed/neutered? I only ask because our local humane society will spay/neuter any stray ferals for free. Hubby and I took in about 13 a few years ago. Never paid for anything but the gas. Did live traps, brought them in and had them fixed, then released them back into the neighborhood. Their numbers were much better the following years.

Its possible that its hoarders, people who lost their homes and just released their cats, breeding.

I'm maxed out...I adopted 2 more this summer to bring my kitteh total to 5....one more would officially make me a crazy cat lady...

trick is to only catch females and fix them. only takes one male to impregnate 100 females, so best spay all the females so the males have less to mate with.

Cats should only be kept inside the house as they are little monsters who kill all endemic wildlife. They are also not useful against rodents because they chase away the natural predators.

a few weeks ago i trapped a stray feral,
now last night i looked out and there was her MOTHER.

I could tell it was her mother, because it looked exactly like the kitten i trapped and took in.

But i have problems of my own with my own kitties. Now i donot know what to do.

rodents have no predtors, unless you have fox in your neighborhood, therefor kitties are rats' only predator.

In the neighborhoods there are no hawks, and the crows stay in the high treetops stealing, from out of the nests, all the Spring, baby birds to feed their own baby crows, for which the kitties get blamed.

Yes, they are mostly fixed - which I have been doing. problem is more and more and more keep showing up. Everyone on the street is getting pissed, including myself as they shit all over in yards... I have no idea where the damn influx is coming from!!! I hate taking them into the shelter because I know what will happen, but its getting insane...

Yeah, something is not right. They are everywhere when I walk the neighborhood. Its like a Cat Zoo. But, most are timid and by themselves. Not looking for trouble from the Sheriff.

Please donot give up. You and i are probably over-weight anyway, so we can take out of our grocery budget for the furry, little lovers. Never ever post for animal abuse! Strey cats have just as much right to live as you and I and they are the victims of mankinds irresponsibility abandoning them ! They need to be spayed and neutered and fed provide a shelter if possible. You do not ever hurt a living creature. Bad Karma comes to those who even think of such a thing.

The Alliance for Strey Cats says spay and neuter and then feed them ! You always tell people they have a right to live and be fed! Provide some shelter from the cold their fur is only good for 40 degrees! Help them the shelter will just kill them let them live with your help make sure you get them spayed and neutered.

In normal, civilized times when you know youare always going to be there for them, neutering etc. is ok, but not now.

Yea, got home and cleaned up the neighbors front yard, they just moved in and tried to explain what was going on. Only took like 5 minutes. No biggy. I guess I'll keep looking for homes for them... but damn I can't keep up with the influx...!!!!!!!!!!! People are fucked up. I have prize persians - worth a shit load, and you know what? As some one else above said, the most important thing you can do is neuter. If you have a cost free source of neutering, which you say you do, that is an excellent starting place.

You want to have a look on the net about TNR 'Trap Neuter and Return' programs. There is also an organization called Alley Cat Allies which should have a lot of info on feral cats.

You are doing a great job to home the ones you can home. But in a situation like this the goal posts have to move. Neuter, neuter, neuter! Though I dislike the practice most TNR programs clip the tip of the left ear of a neutered feral, so it can be identified as having been 'done'. Though this should be done as discretely as possible, not mutilation.

If this is as bad as it sounds, you are going to have a lot of look alikes.

You need to get at least one feral trap from somewhere, learn how to use it and start to neuter all comers, homeable or not. If you have a local TNR group enlist their help and advice. Once neutered many ferals will tend to become more sociable, you may be able to develop a rapport with them and home those later. The first priority must be to stop more kittens.

I would urge you to search the net for info on TNR and feral colonies, and talk to people on those sites for expert advice. Hopefully you can find someone fairly local to you to help you out.
