You've got to write a check on it. Transfer from the savings to the checking and you can get nearly as much as you need with a little notice. The bank only holds a certain amount of cash and they cannot legally go below a certain amount so they have to get a drop for larger withdraws.

I've cashed many a check for well into the 5 figures. I don't get more than $10K cash (because of the IRS paperwork) and the remainder in a cashiers check for whoever the cash is for. (usually Eagles, vehicle or guns)

Savings usually has fine print stating the delay in retrieving cash over a certain amount or percentage. Checking is on demand.
