Why so much hostility to the idea of world government?
I've noticed that there is an enormous hostility on this board to the ideas of global governance or world government which would be the most complete form of global governance. Why does everyone automatically assume that this would be a bad thing?

It could be a very bad thing, of course, if the government was a bad government. But couldn't it be a desirable thing if the government was a reasonably good one? So many problems in today's world are not being solved because nobody has the authority to solve them; problems such as human trafficking, the international drug trade, and human rights violations by national governments. A world federal government should, in these cases, be able to step in and resolve such problems. The present UN may be a step in the right direction but it is very inefficient.

I would be willing to accept a level of government above the national one of my country. Would you?

Well, if you humanity were united like in Star Trek, it would be great. However, we are not. And furthermore, you can't have one race exonerated of being stupid and savage while another is held to ridiculous standards.

Of course it would., I find it amazing that the jehovahs witnesses were talking about this long before fatman or bill cooper
They were right, although I believe that was a truth to be revealed to the masses

Because there always has to be an enemy for the people to concentrate on.

With no enemy of the state, the state itself becomes of the enemy of the people.

This is why governments create enemies where there is none.

Because very quickly it becomes a dictatorship, and there will be no where to escape-- Absolute power corrupts absolutely. We are talking about mere men, not the Lord God ruling and reigning.

Govern = Control / Ment= Mind

I keep telling myself that one day mind control will work for the benefit of us all, but it just isn't clicking.

It is not world government or order people are afraid of...it is world enslavement and the doom that follows that has us all looking to the stars for God or ET to get us the hell out of here!

Totalarian governments never work on a small scale, they always end up with poverty and slavery.

Why would ANYONE want this on a GLOBAL scale?

It is insanity.

Re: Why so much hostility to the idea of world government?
Large governments do not represent the interests of the people. The further removed a government is from the people they are supposed to rule, the worse off they will be all else equal. It is impossible for one legislative body to account for the thousands of different interest groups on earth. It would necessarily be tyrannical.
