Bad parents come in all generations. It has nothing to do with being a baby boomer. My parents were the same type of bad parents they were born in the late 30's and 40's. That's just bad parents---it has nothing to do with being a baby boomer. I was a baby boomer born in 1954 and I raised great kids even though the husband took off and I had to do it by myself. I raised a doctor and a journalist/writer and a teacher. And they all love me and we have great relationship. You can't blame bad parenting on a generation---that's happening now and it happened in 1800's and will happen in 2020. |

Your parents were scumbags, but not because they were boomers. I'm a boomer and I would have never done that to you, and I don't think that most boomers would have. My ex- wife's mother, the wwII gen, stole all of her college and SS money (her dad was in the army when he crashed). She was a piece of shit. My boomer ex had much higher morals in life than her mother had. I've only had about one person in my life get elected that I voted for. Like they say, if voting was dangerous, they wouldn't let us do it. The way this world is, really isn't my fault. I support my 31 yo son and any passing strays that need help. I love him dearly. That's about all I can do. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 48423899 United States 10/17/2013 10:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There wasn't unimaginable prosperity. My dad made less than 700 a month. We got clothes once a year, and shoes twice a year if we needed it. My allowance in high school was $1.50. I had no car, no credit cards, no phone of my own, mostly homemade clothes, a small transistor radio. We had one tv in a 2 story house with 6 people. Our school had no central ac or heat. Most of us rode the bus to school. We weren't allowed to be out on a school night, and curfew was 12am on weekends. Most of us studied hard because the only way to college was through scholarships most of which paid less than 500 per year. Many, millions, were drafted into a war they wanted no part of. Millions more protested in the streets and on campuses all around the country. For Years! Some were killed by our own military. Not prosperous, not spoiled, and very awake and aware and actively trying to bring the government under control. Kind of like now. It was boomers who led and were the majority at the recent protests. Where were you, OP? Hanging out in your mom's basement? Why weren't you taking part, helping, protesting? |

A bunch of lazy, video playing, vile mouthed, youth that I've ever seen in my lifetime! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47877225 However, I would like to thank all the wonderful parents that took time to teach their children manners. Nothing is more attractive as a young man or young women who has been taught manners. You are a rare breed these days!! So to you OP! I'm afraid your generation is the worst so far!!! The boomers born before 1955 and those after are very different people. Before, not spoiled, not brats, not prosperous, not entitled. The ones after, all the bad you can ascribe to them. As an early boomer, my son was raised with the same values my grandparents taught me. He had no video games, no tv in his room, no mobile phone, no car, no phone in his room, limited tv hours. Disciplined for bad behavior, expected to be polite. Where ever it is you youngsters are getting your info, you are sadly mistaken. |

It's the younger ones who are without vision or ambition, are milking the system, and are too small in numbers to support the now aging boomers. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 48402620 ^ this^. Anonymous Coward User ID: 529006 United States 10/17/2013 10:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Boomers started beig born in 1946 and ended in 1964. The oldest are 67 and the youngest are 49. I started work in sophomore year of high school assembling circuit boards. I was 14. I walked 2 miles to that job after school year round in Cleveland winters about a block from Lake Erie. My parents paid for college but I worked for the extras. I made it too easy for my kids. They don't have my work ethic or morality. My 30 year old is a worthless mean alcoholic still trying to live off me. My patents adored me and I adored them. My parents gave me a lot but, never spoiled me. Children were seen but not heard back then. Our 1 tv was taken over by my dad after work. The only phone was in the kitchen where everybody could hear what you said. Never entered my mind to ask for a tv or a phone in my room. Even in the early 70's out of college I was expected to be seen and not heard. I've been saying yes ma'am and no sir to people of all colors and ages all my life. Still say yes ma'am and no sir and I'm 63. I'm proud of who I am and have self respect. I respect others. So, all you young creepy little pricks can't get to me with you insults. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 48402620 yeah but how much of the governments money did they spend when they got suppose to be student loans? They walked into management jobs and stepped on others because that is corporations and the government wanted and boomers don't want to leave their easy jobs because they lost their children's savings accounts and their own savings and they don't have any money. boomers wanted to retire at 55 but because they are so spoiled they want to work for the rest of their lives on the backs of their younger siblings, cousins, and children. they are the worst parents as they have created even bigger crybabies than them if that is possible. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 44582992 Pardon me?! I was not brainwashed; if anything, there is more media deception going on now than ever before, so think about that next time you watch or read a news report. So we didn't have Internet, so what. We thought for ourselves and used our imagination. I most certainly am able to think "out of the box". So all previous generations before the advent of the Internet were stupid? Au contraire. We boomers learned to do math in our heads, no calculators during tests, we had to learn our stuff. Yeah, boo-hoo, poor us, we're the original brainwashed zombies who blindly follow what other people tell us - that's what YOU think. WE are the ones who saw the development of the Internet and cell phones and digital everything and the space race and all kinds of brilliant advancements that now make YOUR life easier. We started out with manual typewriters and wringer washing machines (etc-etc-etc), we adapted and succeeded with the new inventions that came along. We had to learn, unlearn, and relearn. The present-day 20-somethings grew up in the digital age, they went from pressing buttons on a screen to swiping over it, wow. So amazed that you seem to think we are the stupid ones; but quite the contrary, I do believe. I'm a senior female. I'll bet I can do lots of things you can't do. What're you gonna do when everything crashes and your Internet is gone? And let's see how the generation after you can't wait till YOU die off, because they'll feel the same about you as you feel about us - guaranteed. |
