Quoting: Anonymous Coward 48580502 It starts out way too high, and moves downward until it disappears behind the mountains, every night. If you observe that its moving it means that its close to you, i.e. not a space rock etc. BTW do you know that planes take off every night (per schedule) from the same place and would be in the same place at the same time night after night. Don't get me wrong, I love doom, but this doom is for idiots. Definitely not a plane, its fairly stationary and moves very slow, with the rotation of the planet. Rule#4 Double Tap. |

If any foreign minister begins to defend to the death a "peace conference," you can be sure his government has already placed its orders for new battleships and aeroplanes. |

By month’s end, it will set nearly 2 hours after sunset. But it remains low above the southwestern horizon after sunset for northern observers. Stargazers in the southern hemisphere get a much better view of Venus after sunset, as well as the planets Mercury and Saturn and the bright red supergiant star Antares. By month’s end, the visible face of Venus is 50% illuminated. - See more at: [link to oneminuteastronomer.com] Rule#4 Double Tap. |

Is it naked eye? anyone else is able to see it if true. Is it a Planet? why not stretch the telescope to see it more detailed? |

We all debated what is was, it looked like a stationary orange comet or mini sun. I am going out tonight with my camera to try and get photos and will post em. Keep your eyes on the skies! |

It also seems to move with the sun as it goes down. |

Cassandra's Echo User ID: 5556449 United States 10/19/2013 02:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Greengirl, I can see it from northwest Montana. It is almost due south from my location. Quoting: GrizzlyBear My wife was thinking it is a plane beacon, but we have lived here for years and there is no plane beacon. I also saw it on Thursday night from about 100 miles northeast of my location. It is bright orange and good sized for a star. Just at dusk it appears, and like I said, not a single other star in the sky for at least 45 minutes. @Grizzly, where are you in Montana? I am visiting in NW Montana now, and we had a clear night last night. I was checking the western horizon (not northeast) and saw nothing in the sky except Venus. What's your elevation? I am wondering if that might affect visibility. And how long did the object remain visible? Thanks! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 12591899 United States 10/19/2013 02:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok so heres some basic information i gathered based on the OPs post it isnt concrete evidence or eye witness stuff but its something to go on: Based on the ops original posting stellarium indicates that saturn would be visible for a small small window of time if you are in Portland, Oregon or nearby you would see it low low on the horizon for a short 15 to 30 minute period as it gets dark (and saturn has rings so theres your anomalous features people see) |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 48398461 United States 10/19/2013 02:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My thoughts exactly. The Hopi prophecy says that the Red Star Kachina will either come from the East or West. If it comes from the East.... that's good. If from the West...that's bad. The prophecy says it will stay in the distance for a time observing us. Seeing that it is in the western sky, we need to begin focusing on our inner selves. This world has lost true love from within our hearts and this is what the Red Star Kachina is observing. |
