Comet ISON is still on course and will not hit earth | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 48639971 Germany 10/20/2013 12:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just saying. Since there seems to be some "controversy" about this issue, here is some data independent of NASA. The astrometry is based on this image I took on the 17th during this webcast ( Thread: ISON Live Webcast 10-17-13 ) :isonplus1017: Though JPL will continually update the exact orbital data based on the latest astrometry, the revisions made are extremely small. The difference between JPL's calculated perigee (closest approach distance to earth) for the comet and the perigee I calculated a month ago is only 0.000055 AU. The distance I calculated was based on astrometric data up to, but including, September. The total perigee distance calculated by JPL is about 0.429235 AU. It's not a threat to hit earth. Right you are Astro ! But this nothing changes the dust problem. And the possibility of chunks breaking of the comet. |

This is common knowledge, but astroshill needs to satisfy his ego. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47923746 Besides, even if it was going to hit, there isn't a damn thing anyone on this site could do to stop it. No, but wouldn't you like to know if it were going to happen? I know I would. And even if it is common knowledge, some here on GLP claim the opposite (sans evidence of course). This comet is supposed to be 50k kilometers across...the size of Venus, this thing wouldn't HAVE to hit us to do considerable damage would it? Also it seems the Russian scientists all think its going to hit....whats up with that? Not trying to promote doom, or refusing to believe facts, just wondering about the other variables that were not mentioned in your post. Blamelag |

The object will NOT impact Earth, the moon, or any other planetary body in our universe. But, given the nature of the object -- life as you know it will forever change. I can only tell you this: The U.S. government has been tracking this object and studying it from the same location where they have the remains of the UFO that crashed in Roswell, New Mexico: White Sands Missile Rage (WSMR). How do I know this? I have a bunch of little letters after my name and I was employed by NewTech at WSMR in order to study the physics of this object. God speed, and God save us from what is about to occur. Thanks Bro, exactly in line with some other 'insiders' timeline (mid-Dec). Do you know what type of effects we are expecting? Meteor? Solar flare? Earth quake? Will it be global or just US continent? |

The fact that you're creating a thread stating comet ison will not hit earth is fairly odd if I must say. |

Do you know how big the core is, astro? One of the most common claims about this thing is that it's the size of a planet, even a gas giant. Obviously that's just the length of its tail, but I can't really find a source to tell me what the mass of the core is, even as an estimate. |

You know though, I find it odd how you say this comet is still on course. Comet ISON's course has changed in the past few weeks. Who really knows though what course it will be on when the back side of the comet sees the sun. When that side of the comet starts burning it could rocket the comet directly at us, or maybe further away. It's all a guessing game at this point. To say this comet will or will not hit earth is all a matter of opinion at this point. There is no solid fact what path ISON will take. This event is too close for comfort in my opinion. |
