shadow people and sleep paralysis
I noticed a couple of threads dealing with this subject and it is of great interest to me. I have had three distinct experiences with sleep paralysis that I remember. I was visited by "shadow" people, as I like to call them. The first time occurred when I was probably 10 or 11. It was a large figure standing behind me stomping his feet. I could hear the stomping and feel the vibrations *marky mark?* The second and third time happened only days apart when I was about 20. The second time I was being watched by an average-sized figure. The third time this same figure moved towards me and got right on top of me. I had the same feeling that most people have. Unable to speak or move.

I tried discussing this with an alienist and they gave me no comfort. Basically they shrugged it off as though it meant nothing. I never agreed with that. Especially, after coming here and reading other accounts that sound so similar.

What do they want? Why would we all see "shadow" people? I never saw the man in the black hat, however. It has been over a decade since I have had sleep paralysis. I also have sexsomnia occasionally. The only other person I know who has had both is my older brother. The two might be totally unrelated. I appreciate any constructive responses that might help us achieve a greater understanding of this phenomenon. Thank you.

Look up narcolepsy/cataplexy. What you are describing is consistent with this syndrome. It can first manifest as sleep paralysis and very disturbing dreams/hallucinations. There are organic reasons for things- it bothers me that people leap to supernatural conclusions when a valid biological explanation exists.

Sure, I can appreciate that. My only caveat is why do we all experience the same/similar hallucinations?

Re: shadow people and sleep paralysis
Your first experience was at 10 or 11, that's often when people experience their first paranormal phenomena. Six years old, then pre-puberty, then again as a young adult.

I get this when I'm going through an extremely stressful time in my life. Logic-oriented people say it's my brain's reaction to stress but I've come to learn over my lifetime that it's a form of assistance from the other side, whether spirit guides, aliens, ancestors, who knows, but though scary, I have never been harmed and have in fact been helped once I got past the initial terror and allowed them to communicate with me. It's not easy but if it happens again, see if you can communicate telepathically or otherwise. If you're spiritual it does help to say prayers, both to assure you that this is a positive being, and to help calm you.

My own experience has shown me that these types of visitations can also be from my own inner shadow self and it's trying to get my attention or allow itself to be expressed in waking life as opposed to just swallowing my true feelings and "being nice" to save someone's feelings when keeping quiet is actually hurting me in some way.

I had sleep paralysis once and it was not fun. I was stuck between being asleep and awake and not able to move.

Recently I also had a case of hearing voices outside my room as if two men were just outside discussing something.

Both were just the result of having too much caffeine before going to bed.

I can certainly see where sleep paralysis, voices, with the addition of hallucinations can be the source of the supposed bedtime alien encounters and abductions.

Astral entities' behaviors are bizarre; it might be trying to send you a message of some kind. As scary as it seems, it's probably not meant to come off that way.

Re: shadow people and sleep paralysis
For what it's worth I experienced this once. I was laying in bed trying to get to sleep and suddenly I couldn't move. My right arm kind of bent at a 90 degree angle so my hand was in a fist on my chest. All of the sudden I was laying in my back yard on a sunny day and a man in shining white clothing on a shining white horse was in the sky looking down at me. He didn't say anything he just looked at me and I was overwhelmed with a feeling of joy and bliss. It was intense. It was so powerful the only thing I could do is laugh and wrap my arms around myself and squeeze. Next thing I know I'm back in my bed in the basement still paralyzed for a couple seconds then everything went to normal.

This was 14 years ago and I still think about it almost every day. It was crazy. I often wonder why would whoever that was would need a horse if he's in the sky?

Re: shadow people and sleep paralysis
I had what they said were "night terrors" from the age of 6. I would be stuck in some state between dreaming and consciousness is the only way I know to describe it. I would see a shadow person lurking around my room or my bed and I would start screaming hysterically. My parents would rush in and try to calm me down, I was completely aware of them but I was still seeing the "hallucination". This manifested in many forms and continued almost daily until about 20 years old. At one point I would wake family up talking to someone in the mirror, with my eyes open like I was awake. For about a year I was sleepwalking, they would find me out in the woods near my house playing with someone I thought I saw.
The doctors tried different medications but they only increased the activity.
It was hell for my family. I would even have the "dreams" wherever I stayed, church camp, friends house, it didnt matter.
The older I got the less traumatic it was but became more violent and kind of mind torturing dreams sometimes. Then it kind of stopped. After that I started to dream of visiting with dead loved ones. Oddly enough I've lost a lot of close friends and family, including my mother. I have visited with all of them in my dreams and it is always very real and I'm aware I'm dreaming.

My mother was diagnosed with a highly aggressive brain tumor at the age of 52. It quickly took her sanity but she also had different stages of what seemed like psychic type abilities. About 8 months before she died she started talking about shadow people and she was terrified of them.
They were always sneaking around looking at her or hiding behind doors or walking past her room. Then she started talking about the tall shadow man in the tall hat. Of course I assumed it was her mind, but then I started to see things out of the corner of my eye. I still wrote it off until I looked up one night from sitting on my bed and for a second I saw a tall shadow man wearing a big hat standing in my dark doorway.
I believed at that point there were spirits of some sort hanging around because she was dying. I had never heard of the shadow people until now.

My sleep paralysis,I was not asleep AT ALL,just could not move.I am pretty sure caffeine does not cause you to hear voices etc, maybe you should lay off that.It can make you edgy etc..but you should not be hearing things that are not there from caffeine.Maybe there WERE men talking.

Re: shadow people and sleep paralysis
They are shades from the underworld, the remnants of dead people. They linger here because they arent allowed to leave earth's atmosphere. They are completely powerless in the physical sense but they can influence you on the spiritual level. They are not allowed to openly interact with the living, but they are allowed to influence things from behind the scenes.

The way to ward off the souls of the damned is ALWAYS to seek refuge with God, like a fledgling with a hen. Reciting the 10 commandments is a powerful weapon against them, as is invoking the Archangel St. Michael, who they greatly fear.

Trying to one on one them or battle them on your own is pointless, it's like trying to wrestle a stone pillar.

In the end you have to realize that sometimes God allows evil things to happen to achieve a greater good. They cannot go up against the will of God, if he doesnt grant them the freedom to roam around somewhere, they are powerless in that place. You can take that freedom away from them through prayer.

Re: shadow people and sleep paralysis
this is an interesting topic for me since I had an experience about 10 or so as well. As I was trying to fall asleep I was a shadow figure that seemed like it was wearing Medieval armor atleast the helm saying something very very deep pitched and I fell asleep.

I didn't have anything else till about 8 or so months ago age 25 I was having paralysis ( the whole electric buzz and deep feeling of dread as well as trouble breathing but I never seen any figures) this would occur up to 7 times a night. All of it stopped once I started praying, though I don't know if the praying had a religious effect or a placebo effect.

Re: shadow people and sleep paralysis
Sleep paralysis happens when you are in a Sleeping / Trance state but you are awake or semi conscious.

What that means is your branwaves have changed and you are in a deep rest state.

Your body is shut down, so you cant move.

This all relates to Astral Projection.

When you are in this frozen state its possible for your mind or spirit to leave your body and roam around.

And its also possible to encounter other entities when you are in that Astral Realm.

I'm a long time sufferer of sleep paralysis with hypnagogic hallucinations with extreme amount of experience with these entities.

Q. What do these "shadow people" want?
A. To frighten you. These beings feed off of extreme emotions, usually by scaring you. There are some types who will hide in your dreams (around corners, on the floor above you in a building, around the corner, just behind you, etc) silently chanting essentially casting spells which manipulate your dreams in order to force them into nightmare scenarios and actively change the dreamscape, some of them have the ability, when confronted, to make you experience tremendous physical pain or to make you completely dumbfounded and lose focus so that you can fall into a deeper layer of dream. Their method is to control your dream or control your environment so that they can manipulate you into giving our extreme emotions, which they feed off of in order to survive.

They are psychic vampires. Sentient parasites that live by eating your emotions.

Re: shadow people and sleep paralysis
Here's a few things that work exceptionally well at warding them off or keeping them away completely:

1. Anti-demonic prayers, the following of which works very well:

And I, the Sage,
declare the grandeur of his radiance
in order to frighten and terrify
all the spirits of the ravaging angels
and the bastard spirits,
demons, Liliths, owls and jackals...
and those who strike unexpectedly
to lead astray the spirit of knowledge....

-- Dead Sea Scrolls

2. Native American Dream Catchers. Even novelty ones work amazingly well. Just hang one on your door or from your ceiling fan.

3. Dogs. They are very sensitive. When something strange is in the air, they pick up on it. Dogs can pickup on the smallest change in the emotional state of their masters and if you show the slightest bit of alarm or distress during sleep they will become alert and come to your side.

4. I'm not a bible-tard (can't stand them) but I've noticed these beings FLEE when you use the name "Jesus Christ". I know, I know. That isn't the point. It has to do with the emotional charge within the human collective consciousness associated with that name. Hell, you could probably ward them off with the name Muhammad if you were Muslim or Terence Mckenna if you were a shamanic badass. It has to do with emotional charge and belief manifesting reality, which is a HUGE DEAL when you're dealing with entities from the DMT world.

Not that I am disagreeing with you but if you have suffered with it as I have I seem to have developed a tolerance to the supernatural, I haven't encountered beings in my SP's except for when I was very young once.

When I wasn't paralyzed I had crazy vivid dreams with no fear like one that I remember is swimming in a flooded mineshaft with dead children in it (creepy but for some reason not scared).

Are the dreams different then the SPs I haven't had any dreams that vivid since I started praying to keep away the sleep paralysis

I haven't had any encounters in about three months, but throughout my life I have had several hundred encounters with them. The most common are djinn, then small goblin-like creatures, there are tons of different types of entities, some resembling the so-called reptile humanoid or "rept" in various physical/etheric forms, some that have no appearance, but embed themselves inside your body, especially in your throat, who when confronted can temporarily seize control of your body or make objects in your room shake or levitate, including your bed. If you experience something like the last thing I described, you need an expert or a STRONG anti-demonic prayer. Ever seen the movie Cat's Eye? Hotels seem to be a hotspot.

This sounds stupid but I swear I'm not bullshitting you.

The least common are 2 benevolent types: pixie (ball of light that dances around, usually in the daytime or dawn hours) and vortex (sometimes referred to as "funnel ghost") which is very strange thing that resembles a cyclone which positions itself on your body and allows you to "warp" to different dreamscapes during sleep paralysis.

I've come to know pixies as an extremely rare sign that good things and once in a lifetime opportunities are around the corner.

There are a couple factors that contribute heavily to dream recognition, dream recall, and frequency of SP occurrences:

1. Pineal Gland Calcification. I know, this is another overused new age term. DMT and the pineal gland are heavily linked to sleep paralysis and dreaming. The key is to have a well functioning pineal gland. The best thing in terms of diet and hygene that you can do is avoid drinking fluoridated water (especially municipal tap water), only brush your teeth with fluoride-free toothpaste (Tom's of Maine makes one that you can get at most major grocery stores) and do not consume tea (with actual tea leaves in it, herbal teas such as pepperment or chamomile are okay).

2. Adequate sleep. There is a phase during sleep where your body releases a chemical which relaxes your muscles in order to protect you during sleep. It is so that you don't act out or react to your dreams and end up getting hurt while asleep. This is the chemical released before you begin to dream that "paralyzes" you. When you wake up before this has worn off, you will experience sleep paralysis. In order to sense these entities, you need not only be experiencing sleep paralysis, but what they call "sleep paralysis with hypnagogic hallucinations" or SPHH, which differs, clincally, from regular SP due to the presence of an extremely psychoactive neurotransmitter called DMT -the substance released by your pineal gland within your brain immediately after the immobilizing or paralyzing chemical -which causes you to dream. In order to achieve immobilization and dreaming, which are both required for SPHH, you must sleep an adequate duration. The longer the better. If you're sleeping 6 hours a night, try 8. I usually go to sleep around 12 and wake up around 8 and lately have had much less dream recall and as I said earlier, not much SP. Not sure of the exact numbers but I believe it takes 6 to 7 hours on average to achieve REM sleep (rapid eye movements which are the precursor to immobilization and dreaming during sleep). The trick is to go to sleep earlier. Try to sleep 9 or more hours. This will give you, on average, 1-2 hours of dream time each night. If you double your dream time, you double your chances of experiencing SPHH.

3. Hypersensitivity to breathing obstruction. This is key for me. The moment anything touches my neck or moves over my mouth during sleep, my body reacts. This wakes me up when a blanket slips onto my neck or over my mouth, I forget to take a necklace off, a fly lands on my neck, or anything like that. It's the hypersensitivity to breathing obstruction which has accounted for the majority of my sleep paralysis experiences throughout my life. I believe this was developed after a traumatic childhood experience that I had when I was 7 years old - before then I never had any experiences with sleep paralysis. One night while I slept, I was dreaming that I was staring at a large maze. Suddenly I started feeling like I couldn't breathe and felt that I must reach the end of the maze in order to regain the ability to breathe, or else I would suffocate. I frantically hurried to solve the maze but it was too difficult, and I knew there was not enough time for me to finish it and accepted that I was about to suffocate. Right at the last moment, I woke up in my bed and a thick blanket covered in my spit had moved over my face and nearly smothered me in my sleep. I quickly pulled it aside and gasped for air. Ever since then I have been hypersensitive to breathing obstructions during sleep. Go figure. =p

4. Do not smoke marijuana. Or if you do, make sure you stop several hours before bed. For some reason it is a HUGE hindrance to dream recall and SPHH. I was a heavy user in the past and noticed in the months proceeding discontinuing use, my dream recall increased tremendously. I don't want to get any more pseudo-scientific than I may have already but I believe it has something to do with THC triggering your brain to release seratonin, which in turn prevents it from releasing melatonin, one of the chemicals that is heavily linked to sleep and possibly a a chemical trigger for DMT release during REM sleep. If you don't smoke weed you will have a much higher likelihood of remembering your dreams and experiencing SPHH. It can still happen if you smoke, but it will be much less likely. I know this from years of trial and error.

Hope that helps.

Before my dad died he told my ma there was someone always looking into his room. He said it was a dark shadow like person standing in the hospital hall looking in at him.

I was there one day when he was so upset about this person watching him he was whimpering patheticaly as he kept looking at the open door to the hallway.

I see shadow people and point them out or say hi or I see you and most the time I laugh at them and they don't like that so they stay away from me now.
