Today we felt a small quake here in NC but it wasn't on the USGS, and I felt it hubby felt it in the bedroom and my daughter on the couch felt it so I asked the neighbors and they felt it to. However nothing at all on local news, or on USGS site. I know it was little but still here in NC they are not normal.

And you all felt it!

What the heck USGS and EMSC. Ugh!

ok, she has tried it and I was wrong about the heat range thing. It's 60,000 h.u. organic cayenne. And yes, she eats it straight and tried to snort it for the migraines.
 Quoting: Gomez

She's more woman than I am! I can't even order anything beyond the medium wings at Buffalo Wild Wings..lol.

Sorry it didn't help her migraines. Sure would be nice if they'd get off their duffs and find out what causes them to begin with instead of just shrugging them off as a 'womans complaint'.
 Quoting: JazzyG

I am no expert, this is merely my opinion based on a lot of reading and observations. I could be way off base, but I'll throw this out there none the less.

I believe some migraines are caused by increased blood flow to the brain.

This is similar in concept to brain freeze. When you consume cold things your blood vessels constrict. Your body recognizes this and sends increased blood flow to the area constricted. This new blood flow warms up the vessel and it expands. This expansion is what causes the 'brain freeze' or rather short term, acute headache.

With this in mind there's a few things to think about and perhaps may lead to lifestyle changes.

Caffeine and nicotine are some of the most commonly used substances. Both of these substances constrict blood vessels. There are other substances that can do this too but for this explanation I'll stick to caffeine and nicotine.

With continued use of either substance your body will begin to adapt. Your body will keep your blood vessels from constricting when in the presence of these substances. Once the equilibrium is found, your body's status quo is good and you have no problems.

Now, take one or both of these substances away or dramatically reduce intake and your body will take time to adapt again. In the meantime, since you no longer intake substances that restrict blood flow your vessels expand more than normal and you now have increased blood flow. Thus migraines ensue.

Ever notice how all migraine OTC pills contain caffeine?
 Quoting: Sol Neman

Thanks Sol. I've been getting migraines for over 20 years. They run in my family. Research has shown this is generally the case.

I've eliminated all the triggers known and some that I found are triggers only for me. (My menu is absolutely dismal in terms of variety) I don't drink anything with caffeine. I make sure my ph is adjusted and my gut flora is balanced. In short, I've taken all the precautions they've recommended and try every new remedy that comes down the pike.

It doesn't help that I'm a redhead either. We're more susceptible to pain and feel it more strongly than others.

Short of lopping off my head, I'll just have to keep on keeping on.
 Quoting: JazzyG

Ive had migraines for 17 years but this year has been the worst for me! I get both migraines and tension headaches at the same time and have done every medical protocol of drugs to no avail. Neurologist diagnosed me with chronic migraines that trugger the tension headaches.

Finally broke down recently and went to the ER with one and got a shot that got rid of it in 10 minutes. Had a bad one yesterday and went to my family doctor. She gave me 3 shots (phenegran, nubain and a muscle relaxer) and got rid of it. I was at the 6 hour mark when I saw her and she told me not to let it go longer than 2 hours without getting help. That I am suffering needlessly and stressing my body out more by just trying to get through it.

I can list all the home remedies I have tried and that have worked at some point or another
Hot showers while massaging the back and sides of the neck followed with an ice pack. You may find knots on the side of your neck that are restricting blood flow. Work them out and the pounding may ease up. Someone trained in Asian medicine taught me that one.
Vicks on the temples and forehead
Mint- topical or oral. I have a peppermint salve made with coconut oil that I use and 'special' mint soap that I only use when I have a headache.
Pressure point in the webbing of the hand between the thumb and index fingers. When you feel pain in the area, you are on it. Do not use if pregnant as it could cause miscarriage. Make sure to massage both sides when finished to 'close'. It is a meridian and can screw things up if you dont.

Thanks Orchid! I've tried everything you listed spare the ER visits. I'm just not comfortable with chemical intervention. They make so many things now that were never meant to be introduced into the human body. Including the 'food' we eat.

Thanks again and I hope you find relief soon too. hf

I get it! If my headaches didnt last for days, I wouldnt do the chemical part either. Have you tried going to someone with the traditional asian medicine background? My kung fu grandmaster is the only person to get me some relief other than the shots. If you are interested in trying it, message me a city close by you and I will check with my grandmaster to see if there is someone he recommends close by. It might be worth it, after grandmaster worked on my neck and shoulders, I went 6 months without a migraine. I know that is heaven for us migrainees.

That moon...taunting me again now lol. My neighbors must all think I am so weird haha!

Although my favorite neighbors, right next door, the ones I always talk about because they are just wonderful people, have a little girl who is 8 years old. She is the COOLEST kid I have ever met at that age! She LOVES the sky! Whenever there's a rainbow or sunset or moon, she tells her mom to text me and let me know. She's adorable. When she sees me out there with my camera (when it's earlier in the evening), she comes right with me and is so into it. I love that kiddo!

It's pretty cool when there's something beautiful in the sky and I start getting text messages from friends, family and GLP'ers (who are also friends/family to me).

It makes me happy that something beautiful in the sky makes some people think of me. : )

I know that if I was witnessing myself tonight I definitely would've recorded it!
